Summary: The study found that steaming and microwaving increased the total polyphenol content of broccoli florets, while steaming decreased the total flavonoid content and microwaving slightly increased it. All broccoli extracts demonstrated similar radical scavenging and cytoprotective effects. Steamed (3 min)-freeze-dried (F-S3) and microwaved (2 min)-freeze-dried (F-M2) samples showed elevated levels of L-sulforaphane and strong anti-proliferative effects in MCF-7 cells.

Summary: The study identified and described the interaction mode and cleavage process of an undecamer oligonucleotide probe based on a pair of deoxythymidines flanked by modified nucleotides for micrococcal nuclease biosensing. Truncated pentamer probes were designed to improve specificity and efficiency of biosensing. Computational and experimental techniques were used to reveal a novel two-step phosphodiester bond hydrolysis mechanism, crucial for rational oligonucleotide design process.

Summary: In this study, the antioxidant/radical scavenging activity (RSA) of Morin and Imatinib mesylate were investigated using 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical. The RSA of Morin and Imatinib was found to be 83.14% and 83.33% respectively, and the combination of Morin + Imatinib enhanced the RSA by 10%. The presence of 1% Glucose influenced the RSA, with decreases of 54.21%, 13.69%, and 75.59% observed for Morin, Imatinib, and Morin + Imatinib respectively. The structure-activity relationship (SAR) analysis revealed that both Morin and Imatinib act as potent scavengers of DPPH, and the scavenging effect is enhanced by the combination of Morin + Imatinib.

Summary: This study reports the crystal structures of Deinococcus radiodurans HerA and a NurA-HerA complex model. The interaction between NurA and HerA is mainly mediated by ionic links, and key residues responsible for DNA translocation, unwinding, and catalytic activities have been identified. Moreover, the mechanism for the HerA-mediated cleavage of the 5' tail of broken DNA and the generation of a recombinogenic 3' single-stranded DNA tail has been elucidated.

Summary: A stable Zn-BTC MOF photocatalyst, GO@ZnMC, was successfully prepared using an in-situ solvothermal method with varying concentrations of graphene oxide. Characterization techniques such as X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to analyze the composition, structure, and optical properties of the catalyst. The GO@ZnMC composite showed higher degradation efficiency for antibiotics CIP and TC compared to pristine GO, Zn-MOF, and other composites, especially when using calcium peroxide as the co-catalyst. The increased photocatalytic activity was attributed to the formation of a heterojunction that suppresses electron-hole pair recombination. The catalyst remained stable and reusable for four catalytic cycles.
