Summary: An enantioselective consecutive cyclization/coupling process catalyzed by palladium was reported in this study. The stereoinduction was achieved through an enantioselective carbopalladation, leading to the generation of an intermediate that promotes a nucleopalladation step. This dual cyclization sequence was compatible with various nucleophiles and aryl iodides, producing numerous bisheterocycles in good yields and high regio- and enantioselectivities.

Summary: This review aims to analyze recent studies on the synthesis of five-membered nitrogen heterocycles using palladium catalysts. The focus is on studies from the last three years. The common feature of these methods is the formation of nitrogen-containing five-membered rings through the ring closing of appropriate starting materials. The selected examples demonstrate that a wide range of products, from small monocycles to condensed multi-ring systems, can be efficiently obtained with high yields and stereoselectivities under mild reaction conditions.

Summary: A heterogeneous catalytic system for the acceptorless dehydrogenative condensation between N,N'-disubstituted ureas and 1,2-diols to produce imidazolones was developed. The designed palladium nanoaggregates on an alumina matrix showed good activity and selectivity, with wide applicability and moderate to good yields. Mechanistic studies and characterization were performed, revealing the key factors for the catalyst's activity. Furthermore, a Pd-Zn cooperation effect was described, and bimetallic materials were also designed and characterized properly.

Summary: We report a general and efficient enantioselective C-H arylation of aryl bromides using BozPhos as the bisphosphine ligand and SP-NHC-PdII as recoverable heterogeneous catalyst. By exploiting the release and catch mechanism of action, high enantioselectivities were achieved across different substrates containing methyl, cyclopropyl and aryl C-H bonds. The developed catalytic system provides a more sustainable solution for the synthesis of high added-value chiral products through recycling of the precious metal.

Summary: In this study, a single metal catalyst and air as the oxidant were used to achieve tandem C-H arylation and C-H amidation of cis-cinnamyl hydroxamates, leading to the regioselective formation of a 3-aryl-2-quinolone ring system. Under identical conditions, the corresponding trans-isomer resulted in a 4-aryl-2-quinolone derivative. The observed complementary regioselectivity during the tandem C-H arylation and C-H amidation of isomeric substrates is unusual and has potential applications.

Summary: This account article summarizes the synthesis and applications of fluoroalkyl and fluoroalkenyliodonium salts, with a focus on the reagents designed in the author's laboratory in the past decade. Trifluoroethyl(aryl)iodonium salts have been frequently used to build carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds through simple nucleophilic substitutions and transition metal catalyzed coupling reactions. Iodonium salts equipped with unsaturated fluorinated function exhibit diverse reactivity and enable the preparation of fluorinated carbo- and heterocyclic molecules through cycloaddition and nucleophilic addition reactions. The presented collection aims to inspire future developments and applications of iodonium reagents in organic synthesis.

Summary: The gold-catalyzed transformation of propargylic glycols with thiols results in the formation of alpha-indol-3-yl alpha-((Z)-2-thioalkenyl) ketones through a complex but selective reaction mechanism. This sequence involves regioselective thiolation of indolyl diols followed by the attack of sulfur on the activated alkyne, rather than the indole. The final compounds are obtained in high yields from simple starting materials such as indolyl acyloins, ethynyl magnesium bromide, and thiols.
