Mild acid degradation of the lipopolysaccharide of Edwardsiella tarda PCM 1156 afforded an O-polysaccharide, which was isolated by gel-permeation chromatography on Sephadex G-50 and studied by sugar and methylation analyses along with H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR spectroscopy, including 2D H-1, H-1 COSY, TOCSY, ROESY, H-1, C-13 HSQC, and HMBC experiments. The following structure of the linear tetrasaccharide repeating unit of the O-polysaccharide was established: -> 4)-alpha-D-GalpNAc-(1 -> 6)-alpha-D-Manp-(1 -> 3)-alpha-L-Fucp-(1 -> 3)-beta-D-GlcpNAc-(1 -> (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd.
