Summary: This study evaluated the performance of multizonal thermodynamic equilibrium calculation in waste incineration by comparing results with incineration tests and literature information. The calculation successfully reproduced the gas phase chemical speciation of heavy metals in the incinerator expected from high temperature properties but did not match the measured fly ash speciation. Possible reasons for these inconsistencies were considered.

Summary: The study found that attapulgite, as an adsorbent, had better adsorption effects on heavy metals at high temperatures, effectively controlling the pollution of heavy metals produced during municipal sludge incineration. Experimental results showed that the proportion of unstable fraction in the adsorption products of attapulgite was lower and exhibited better leaching stability compared to kaolin.

Summary: The study found that the efficiency of phosphorus extraction from sewage sludge ash varied with different incineration temperatures, while for acidic extraction liquids, the optimal P extraction efficiency was found in samples obtained around 850 degrees Celsius. Co-extraction of heavy metals generally decreased with increasing incineration temperature, possibly due to the immobilization of heavy metals in the SSA matrix.

Summary: In this study, bottom ash from hazardous oil sludge incineration was utilized to prepare SiO2-Al2O3-CaO system glass-ceramics with the addition of waste glass wool (GW). The effects of basicity and sintering temperature on the properties and potential toxicity of glass-ceramics were investigated. The results demonstrated that glass-ceramics with a basicity of 0.88 and sintering temperature of 950 degrees C exhibited the best comprehensive properties and showed excellent solidification effect on heavy metals.

Summary: By conducting incineration experiments, this study found that the use of CaO additive can effectively reduce the soluble forms of Cu and Zn in bottom ash during oil sludge incineration, lowering the leaching levels of Cr, Cu, and Zn. This provides theoretical support for the harmless treatment of heavy metals in bottom ash.

Summary: Increasing temperature and time can promote the volatilization of non-apatite inorganic phosphorus (NAIP), while magnesium chloride (MgCl2) and calcium chloride (CaCl2) can greatly facilitate the conversion of NAIP to apatite phosphorus (AP). Research findings suggest that chlorine additives in sewage sludge incineration can help achieve higher bioavailability of phosphorus-containing minerals.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of PET and PVC microplastics on the leaching behavior of Cu and Zn in incineration bottom ashes from dyeing sludge, and reveals the underlying mechanism. The presence of microplastics increases the leaching rate of Cu and Zn, but the amorphous structure of the ashes plays a regulating role. Low microplastics content enhances leaching, while high microplastics content forms an amorphous Si/Al structure that stabilizes Cu and Zn in the ashes.

Summary: Phosphorus and operating temperature have significant effects on the behavior and distribution of heavy metals in fluidized bed combustion. Experimental results showed that the presence of phosphorus led to easier particle agglomeration and different emission trends for Pb, Cd, and Cr. Higher temperatures promoted the volatilization of Pb and Cd, while the emission of Cr was influenced by the affinity of Al and Cr with Na in the incinerator. The distribution of heavy metals was found to be higher in both the coarsest and finest particles during agglomeration/defluidization.

Summary: In this study, the effects of melting temperature, alkalinity, atmosphere, chlorine content, and the addition of an iron bath on the migration characteristics and phase transformation of heavy metals in incineration fly ash (IFA) were investigated using simulation and experimental verification. The results showed that the temperature had a positive correlation with the gas phase proportion of lead, zinc, copper, and iron. The alkalinity had little effect on the distribution of elements in the liquid slag phase and gas phase, except for zinc. The addition of an iron bath promoted the element distribution in the liquid metal phase and inhibited the volatilization of lead.

Summary: A novel process combining gallic acid (GA) and mixed culture bioleaching (MCB) was designed to enhance the removal of metals from spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). The process achieved 98.03% Co and 98.02% Li leaching from spent LIBs, reducing the biotoxicity, phytotoxicity, and leaching toxicity of the batteries. Mechanism analysis showed that functional microorganisms adapted to the leaching system through various strategies, aiding in the release of Co and Li. This study provides valuable insight into simultaneously enhancing metal extraction and reducing environmental pollution from spent LIBs.
