Summary: The present study proposes two unique systems for combining Ag, chitosan (CS), and gallic acid (GA) into a single particulate nanostructure using free radical-induced grafting reactions. The grafting of GA into CS-AgNPs was confirmed, and the obtained hybrid NPs II showed lower toxicity, higher antioxidant, and antibacterial activity compared to other samples. The results suggest that grafting GA to CS-AgNPs is a unique process with potential future applications.

Summary: The novel nanocapsule-embedded hydrogel dressing (MCNG-H), formed by crosslinking magnolol-grafted-chitosan hydrochloride (CSCl-MAG) with genipin, shows sustained antibacterial and antioxidant properties. MCNG-H exhibits good swelling properties and biocompatibility, with the combination of CSM-H and MCNGs effectively inhibiting bacteria and eliminating reactive oxygen species (ROS). The pH-responsive release of loaded MAG in MCNG-H ensures sustained release and long-term antibacterial and anti-oxidant activities. In a splinted excisional dermal wound model, MCNG-H significantly accelerates wound healing, making it a promising dressing for infected wounds.

Summary: Currently, research is being conducted in the field of multilayer hydrogels for wound dressing. Additionally, the use of natural essential oils and their derivatives with antibacterial and antioxidant properties has gained attention due to developing bacterial resistance to common antibiotics. In this study, a novel bilayer hydrogel composed of polyvinyl alcohol and chitosan with the incorporation of Saqez essential oil (SEO) was synthesized. The results indicated that the bilayer hydrogel showed gel-type structure, specific compression, and flexibility. Moreover, increasing the concentration of SEO resulted in reduced swelling and water vapor permeability, increased water retention, and enhanced hydrophobicity. The combination of SEO in the bilayer hydrogel demonstrated strong antioxidant properties and increased antimicrobial activity. The bilayer hydrogels were found to be biocompatible, non-toxic, and blood compatible according to in vitro tests. In vivo tests showed that these bilayer hydrogels exhibited good homeostatic efficiency. Overall, these bilayer hydrogels hold great potential as wound dressings.

Summary: Liver disease is a major cause of global mortality, and identifying biomarkers for diagnosing its progression is crucial for improving outcomes. Targeted mass spectrometry is a powerful tool for verifying biomarker candidates and clinical applications, particularly for glycoproteins translation. However, the limitation of analyzing only one sample per run has become apparent. In this study, a high-throughput intact N-glycopeptides quantification strategy was developed, allowing the validation of 20 samples per run with an average analysis time of 3 minutes per sample. The strategy was applied in a cohort of 461 serum samples and identified a panel of 10 IgG N-glycopeptides that have strong clinical utility in evaluating the severity of liver disease.
