Summary: Research suggests that nanoparticles smaller than 50 nm can penetrate directly into lymph node metastases, and by introducing targeting capabilities, their accumulation in the metastases can be enhanced for improved local treatment. Targeted small-sized nanoparticles have the potential to enable superior paradigms for dealing with lymph node metastases, as demonstrated by experiments showing extended survival in mice undergoing targeted photothermal therapy.

Summary: Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) alter the expression of multiple genes in HNSCC tumor cells, some of which are associated with proliferation, differentiation, and metastasis. The CAF-regulated genes MMP9 and FMOD are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) in patients treated with radiotherapy.

Summary: The study found that low progesterone concentrations may affect endometrial gene expression, potentially impacting implantation potential. Progesterone is mainly involved in endometrial structure morphogenesis and cell adhesion. Endometrial receptivity may already be sufficient when progesterone concentrations are approximately between 10 and 15 ng/ml.

Summary: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is strongly associated with colorectal cancer, yet the molecular mechanism is not fully understood. A comprehensive bioinformatics analysis of colon tissue transcriptomics data revealed key genes involved in colitis and colitis-associated cancer. Further validation confirmed the potential of matrix metalloproteinase genes as prognostic markers for colorectal neoplasia.

Summary: This study investigated the expression differences of SNAI1 and E-cadherin in primary tumors and LNMs of colon adenocarcinoma, and their impact on prognosis. The results showed that high expression of SNAI1 in LNMs was significantly correlated with poor prognosis, while low SNAI1 expression may indicate delayed recurrence in the liver and lung.

Summary: Krukenberg tumors (KT) are rare ovarian tumors that have metastasized from primary sites, with a low rate of RTK gene amplification. Intratumoral heterogeneity is common in KT with RTK gene amplification, and a mutually exclusive pattern of RTK gene amplification is predominant among primary cancers, lymph-node metastases, and KT. There is no difference in survival between KT of gastric and colorectal origin, but among synchronous cancers, KT of colorectal origin have a better prognosis compared to gastric origin.

Summary: This retrospective study evaluated the efficacy and safety of involved-pelvic-node SBRT for oligorecurrent prostate cancer and found it to be a safe and effective treatment with a 100% local control rate in the series. In addition, prognostic factors such as number of secondary lesions, time-to-nadir PSA, PSA nadir value, and the time interval between primary treatment and SBRT were identified. Future prospective randomized studies are needed to further understand oligorecurrent prostate cancer.

Summary: Hepatectomy with prior bilioenteric anastomosis is associated with higher rates of major complications, surgical site infections, organ/space infections, and bile leakage compared to those without prior anastomosis. Bile leakage is a significant risk factor for organ/space infections in patients with prior anastomosis, highlighting the importance of meticulous liver transection to reduce bile leakage and prevent infectious complications.

Summary: Muse cells have a stronger ability to home to the liver and repair damaged tissue compared to MSCs, improving blood chemistry and proliferative hepatocytes within a short timeframe. Knockdown of hepatocyte growth factor and vascular endothelial growth factor-A can impair the protective effect of Muse cells on LSECs. Intravenous injection of Muse cells may be a feasible approach for LDLT with less recipient burden.

Summary: Disasters pose a threat to the nutritional health of children, but adequate infant and young child feeding can prevent malnutrition and save lives. Despite progress in nutritional support during disasters, child malnutrition remains a concern. Factors such as malnutrition before disasters, food insecurity, living conditions in shelters, poor breastfeeding practices, sociocultural factors, and organizational challenges all impact child nutrition in disasters. It is recommended to adopt a coordinated approach that includes preparedness, policy development, and education for children, families, and relief workers. Periodic nutritional assessments and designated authorities are necessary for providing nutritional support. Education and involvement of the general population are also important. Future assessments should consider food allergies in children and the impact of nutrition on child mental health in disasters.

Summary: In this study, we have developed a new type of biocompatible phosphate analog (fluorophosphoramidate, FPA) and investigated its function in vivo. By improving the molecular design of FPA, we found that it can function as a phosphate prodrug of nucleoside. Additionally, one of the synthesized FPA-gemcitabine derivatives showed superior toxicity to cancer cells.

Summary: This study analyzed the impact of hypothermia during tsunami disasters based on casualty data from Miyagi Prefecture during the Great East Japan Earthquake. The research examined the spatial distribution of hypothermia victims' locations and the effects of age group, location, environmental temperature, and tsunami exposure at different scales. It was found that hypothermia victims were only identified in coastal areas, indicating an increased risk of hypothermia due to wetting of the body caused by exposure to tsunami water and a cold environment at evacuation centers. The proportion of older individuals (>70 years) among hypothermia victims was significantly higher compared to drowning victims. Based on these findings, a response checklist in evacuation centers and a modified government response flowchart are proposed to reduce the risk of hypothermia after a disaster.

Summary: TWIST1 is an important poor prognostic factor for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) patients who undergo adjuvant chemotherapy after radical resection. Positive expression of TWIST1 is associated with significantly poorer prognosis in terms of relapse-free survival and overall survival. This finding suggests that TWIST1 can be utilized as a predictive factor for the response to adjuvant chemotherapies in PDAC patients.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the potential of anti TNF-alpha antibodies (Abs) in inducing colon cancer development and identify the genes involved in colitis-associated cancer. The results showed that TNF-a inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion of colon cancer cell lines, and the neutralization of TNF-a by anti TNF-a Abs was observed in vitro. In a mouse model of colitis-associated cancer, treatment with infliximab, an anti TNF-a Ab, significantly reduced the development of colon cancer. Furthermore, gene analysis revealed the role of mast cells in the development of cancer associated with colitis.
