Dietary antioxidants, such as those found in food, have been found to have a positive impact on gut microbial populations, which can help alleviate gut microbial dysbiosis and contribute to the development of gut microbe-targeting therapeutics for various diseases. This review discusses the health benefits of major dietary antioxidant groups, and the interaction between gut microbiota and these antioxidants through pre-clinical and human dietary interventions.
