Summary: This study investigated the impact of retinoic acid (RA) on the gene expression of small heat shock protein B8 (HSPB8) and BCL-2 associated athanogene 3 (BAG3) in breast cancer cells. The results showed that RA can decrease the expression of both HSPB8 and BAG3 genes, and also affect the mitotic spindle organization in the cells. The effects of RA on HSPB8 levels are suggested to be mediated by miR-574-5p, highlighting a potential therapeutic strategy for counteracting HSPB8 in breast cancer progression.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the anticancer effect of cyanidin 3-glycoside (C3G) on the MCF-7 cell line. The results showed that C3G has dose-dependent cytotoxic effects on MCF-7 cells. After 24 hours of exposure to C3G, the apoptosis rate of cells exceeded 51.5%. Treatment with C3G also led to an increase in the expression of p53, Bax, Caspase3, CYP1, and CYP2 genes, and a decrease in the expression of the Bcl2 gene. In conclusion, C3G has apoptotic and cytotoxic effects on breast cancer cells, making it a potential option for cancer therapy.

Summary: Disulfiram and hydralazine have been found to have anti-cancer effects and have been repositioned as adjuvants in cancer therapy. This study evaluated the triple combination of doxorubicin, hydrazine, and disulfiram against wild-type and doxorubicin-resistant MCF-7 breast cancer cells. The results showed that the triple combination reduced drug resistance and enhanced chemosensitivity to doxorubicin in the cancer cells.

Summary: Antibiotics inhibit breast cancer stem cells by suppressing mitochondrial biogenesis, but their effectiveness in clinical settings is inconsistent. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of five commonly used antibiotics for inhibiting breast cancer stem cells under hypoxia. The results showed that hypoxia affected the rate of antibiotic inhibition, and some antibiotics even led to therapeutic resistance. These findings suggest that hypoxia weakens the inhibitory effects of antibiotics on breast cancer stem cells.
