Summary: This study found distinct clinical symptoms and CT features in patients with co-existent PTB and lung cancer, which aid in early diagnosis. Patients with PTB and fibrous calcification may have a higher risk of developing lung cancer. Further multicenter prospective studies are needed to validate these findings.

Summary: A good lifestyle is associated with a reduced risk of gastric cancer regardless of family history, while family history of early-onset cancer is closely related to the occurrence of gastric cancer. About 34% of gastric cancer cases can be attributed to non-compliance with three or more healthy lifestyle factors.

Summary: This study investigated the collective effects of environmental factors on non-smoker lung cancer and found that a history of lung disease, especially asthma, and a family history of lung cancer were significantly associated with an increased risk of developing lung cancer without smoking confounders. Moreover, the study revealed an interaction between environmental exposure index (EEI) and lung disease history, as well as a potential interaction between EEI and family history of lung cancer, suggesting the importance of considering both genetic and environmental factors in lung cancer risk assessment among non-smokers.

Summary: This population-based, case-control study explores the relationship between prior tinnitus and the occurrence of chronic kidney disease (CKD). The study shows that CKD patients are more likely to have previously experienced tinnitus. However, there is no evidence suggesting that tinnitus is a predictor of subsequent CKD.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between the ACE1 rs4646994 polymorphism and the risk of lung cancer in patients with pulmonary nodules. The results showed that patients carrying the DD genotype have more than three times the risk of lung cancer compared to patients carrying the II+ID genotype. Additionally, the frequency of the ACE1 rs4646994 DD genotype is inversely correlated with the risk of EGFR mutation in lung adenocarcinoma patients.

Summary: The study found that first-, second-, and third-degree relatives of patients with diverticulitis have an increased risk of developing the disease compared to relatives of controls. Complicated diverticulitis is also more common among relatives of patients. This information can assist surgeons in counseling patients and family members about the risk of diverticulitis and aid in the development of risk-stratification tools.

Summary: This study examines the association between a history of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in first-degree relatives (FDRs) and the risk of colorectal cancer (CRC). The researchers conducted a case-control study in Sweden among 69,659 CRC cases and 343,032 non-CRC controls. They found that having FDRs with IBD history did not increase the risk of CRC. These findings suggest that extra screening for CRC may not be necessary in the relatives of IBD patients.

Summary: The study aimed to determine if enzyme-inducing antiseizure drugs (ASDs) affect the risk of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or lung cancer in smokers. Results showed a slightly decreased risk of COPD and lung cancer among smokers taking enzyme-inducing ASDs, with this association being attenuated in heavy smokers.

Summary: Underlying lung disease can affect the pulmonary toxicity after radiotherapy for lung cancer. Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is associated with severe pulmonary toxicity and poor survival even after proton beam therapy (PBT), while PBT seems to be a safe treatment modality for lung cancer patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Summary: Epidemiological studies have shown that elevated levels of zinc are associated with a decreased risk of lung cancer. This study investigates the link between zinc exposure and lung cancer risk through the analysis of metabolites. The researchers found that certain metabolites had a linear dose-response relationship with plasma zinc levels and were different between lung cancer cases and healthy controls.

Summary: Histoplasmosis, a well-known endemic fungal infection, may be challenging to diagnose in non-endemic regions, often leading to delayed diagnosis and potential misinterpretation as other more common diseases. In such cases, the flip-flop fungus sign in [F-18]FDG-PET/CT can aid in guiding further diagnostic measures to prevent misdiagnosis and ensure appropriate treatment.

Summary: This study analyzed predictors of pulmonary embolism (PE) in lung cancer patients with lower extremity deep venous thrombosis (DVT) in order to personalize their treatment and management. The results showed that hypertension, long-term bedridden status, and elevated D-dimer levels were independent risk factors for PE in these patients. Novel strategies for patient management should be developed to decrease the risk of PE.

Summary: For early-stage NLPHL patients, CRT was associated with the best survival outcomes, with significantly improved OS and reduced risk of death. However, for advanced-stage patients, none of the treatments had a significant effect on survival. Chemotherapy alone and CRT may be more beneficial for long-term survival in advanced-stage NLPHL. Further studies are needed to identify effective treatments in this patient population.

Summary: Malnutrition is common among cancer patients, but there is no recognized nutrition screening tool for this population. Using the Delphi method, we developed a nutrition screening tool called AIWW. Based on the results, AIWW showed better screening effectiveness compared to NRS-2002 and MST for cancer patients and can be recommended as an alternative tool.
