Encouraging Patients to Ask Questions: Development and Pilot Testing of a Question Prompt List for Patients Undergoing a Biopsy for Suspected Prostate Cancer

Summary: This study assessed the acceptability and feasibility of a question prompt list (QPL) for treatment decision-making in men with suspected localized prostate cancer. The QPL was developed through consultation with consumers, clinicians, and researchers. Results showed moderate-high satisfaction and perceived usefulness among QPL recipients. However, only a small proportion of eligible men received the QPL, indicating limited feasibility. Further research is needed to facilitate the uptake of the QPL in clinical practice.

Ask questions (ASQ): Implementation of a question prompt list communication intervention in a network of outpatient medical oncology clinics*

Summary: This study assessed the implementation and patient perceptions of an evidence-based Question Prompt List (QPL), the ASQ brochure, in a diverse patient population at oncology clinics. The QPL was revised in collaboration with stakeholders and implementation was assessed using the RE-AIM framework. Results showed that the implementation of the ASQ brochure was successful, with improvements in communication outcomes and positive patient perceptions. Practical implications suggest that this communication intervention can be widely implemented in similar medical contexts and populations.

Learning to ask their own questions: How elementary students develop social studies inquiry questions

Summary: Although asking questions is a common disciplinary practice, little is known about how elementary-aged students learn to develop inquiry questions. This study analyzed how 19 third-grade students in the U.S. Midwest Region developed questions related to various disciplines. It was found that students were generally successful but their questions were mostly closed-ended.

Patients' attitudes towards using a question prompt list in community pharmacies

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the usage rate and perceived usefulness and benefits of a question prompt list (QPL) among patients collecting prescribed medication in community pharmacies. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews with patients in Swedish pharmacies. The outcomes showed that 50.0% of patients reported they had used the QPL. Patients with new prescriptions and non-native Swedish speakers used the QPL more often. The QPL was found to be quick to read and easy to understand. Patients who reported using the QPL asked more questions and had higher self-perceived medication knowledge. In interviews, the QPL was described as an eye-opener for what questions one could ask the pharmacist.

A Question Prompt List for Advanced Cancer Patients Promoting Advance Care Planning: A French Randomized Trial

Do African American patients with glaucoma ask their eye providers the questions they have?

Future research should focus on improving question asking using a question prompt list.

Statins and Liver Cancer in Cirrhosis: The Most Relevant Questions Are Still Unanswered

Feel free to ask: Nudging to promote asking questions in the online classroom

Interventions to empower cardiorenal patients: A systematic review

Further research and multidimensional interventions using valid and reliable measurement tools are needed to empower cardiorenal patients comprehensively.

Various measures will be used to assess the intervention's effects and psychological impacts.

Summary: This quantitative study examined the level of organisational readiness of cancer services preparing to implement a clinical pathway for the screening, assessment, and management of anxiety and depression in adult cancer patients. Factors such as the number of treatment modalities implemented and staff roles were found to impact organisational readiness. Higher organisational readiness scores were associated with more positive perceptions of the clinical pathway.

Is de-escalation of treatment by omission of radiotherapy associated with fear of cancer recurrence in women with early breast cancer? An exploratory study
