Summary: The study found that diabetic patients with hip fractures have an increased risk of mortality compared to non-diabetics, as well as a higher risk of cardiac complications and renal failure. However, there was no significant difference in the risk of cerebrovascular, pulmonary, or thromboembolic complications between diabetic and non-diabetic patients. Further research is needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: The study found a lack of sufficient information in the literature for evidence-based estimation of life expectancy beyond two years for geriatric patients with femoral neck fractures. There is a need for additional data collection, analysis, and reporting regarding survival after surgical treatment for hip fractures in the elderly population.

Summary: Dementia has significant negative impacts on the recovery of postoperative walking ability, postoperative infection, hip dislocation, delirium and respiratory complications, and mortality after hip fracture surgery. The integrated and reliable role of dementia in hip surgery is crucial for clinical strategies and countermeasures for possible complications.

Summary: A systematic review found that anti-osteoporotic treatment after hip fracture can reduce mortality rates, with conflicting data on re-fracture risk. More data are needed to validate the actual effects of such treatment on secondary prevention.

Summary: This study quantitatively and comprehensively summarized the risk factors for postoperative pneumonia (POP) following hip fracture surgery. Advanced age, male sex, chronic diseases, and preoperative biochemical indicators were identified as risk factors for POP. Related prophylaxis strategies should be implemented for patients with these risk factors.

Summary: This systematic review investigated the effects of reversing Direct Oral Anticoagulants in hip fracture patients. The study suggests that watch and wait strategy is not recommended for reversing DOAC effects in hip fractures, and further research is needed to determine the optimal timing for surgery and the use of other reversal strategies.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the long-term mortality rate and incidence of intestinal obstruction after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Through a meta-analysis of 41 studies, it was found that the long-term mortality rate after laparoscopic cholecystectomy was 2%, and the long-term incidence of intestinal obstruction was 1.3%.

Summary: The meta-analysis showed that ERAS significantly decreases the time to surgery, length of stay, and overall complication rate in patients with hip fractures. No significant change was found in the 30-day readmission rate or 30-day and 1-year mortality. These results support the beneficial effects of implementing ERAS in patients undergoing hip fracture repair surgeries.

However, RAE has no significant impact on anastomotic leak, chyle leak, recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy, cardiac complication, infectious complications, conversion to open surgery, or early mortality.

The results showed that the proportion of patients observed in an emergency setting or hospitalized due to COVID-19 was lower in the treatment group than the placebo group, suggesting that the combination treatment can reduce the risk of disease progression.

Summary: This study aimed to describe current national heterotopic ossification (HO) prophylaxis patterns, determine the association between prophylaxis type and radiographic HO, and identify if heterogeneity in treatment effects exist based on outcome risk strata. The results showed that most centers included in the study did not administer HO prophylaxis, and XRT was associated with a reduction in overall HO rate and severe HO rate in high-risk patients.
