A reliable method was developed for the simultaneous extraction and determination of sixteen sulfonamides (SAs), nine quinolones (QLs), three macrolides (MLs), four tetracyclines (TCs), nine azoles, two neonicotinoids, and dimethoate in sediments using ultrasonic-assisted extraction (USE) followed by solid phase extraction (SPE) clean-up and high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis. The USE solvents (seven solvents or their combinations), SPE cleanup conditions (e.g. types of SPE cartridges, dilution volumes, and addition of Na(2)EDTA), and LC-MS/MS parameters were optimized. Quantification was performed by an external standard method using matrix-matched calibration curves. Recoveries of the target compounds ranged from 40% to 127% (except enrofloxacin and marbofloxacin), with relative standard deviations <18.4% (n = 5). The method detection limits were 0.01 to 0.45 ng g(-1) dry weight for all the target analytes. The method was successfully applied to analyze the selected chemicals in surface sediments collected from the Jiulong River Estuary, Fujian, China. The concentrations of the target compounds in the sediments (dry weight) were relatively low, with 0.15-2.9 ng g(-1) of Sigma 16SAs, 1.0-16.6 ng g(-1) of Sigma(9)QLs, 0-2.6 ng g(-1) of Sigma(3)MLs, 1.3-17.5 ng g(-1) of Sigma 4TCs, and 0.77-6.8 ng g(-1) of Sigma(12) pesticides.

Occurrence and distribution of polyhalogenated carbazoles (PHCs) in sediments from the northern South China Sea

Wenxiu Zhou, Weifang Chen, Peng Li, Zhaoyang Gu, Jinghe Peng, Kunde Lin

Summary: The study revealed that the concentration of PHCs in sediments of the northern South China Sea is mainly influenced by the organic carbon content and water depth, with different PHCs showing different correlations. The analysis of sediment cores also showed that the congener profiles and concentrations of PHCs have remained stable over the past century.

Summary: In this study, magnetic mesoporous materials combined with real-time in situ mass spectrometry were used for the high-throughput detection of hydrolyzed products of organophosphorus nerve agents. The method showed good linearity, low limits of detection and quantification, and high extraction recoveries. The magnetic preparation method used was quick, cost-effective, rugged, and safe. The results demonstrated the potential of this method for rapid and efficient determination of the target analytes in environmental samples.

Construction of a molecularly imprinted fluorescent sensor based on an amphiphilic block copolymer-metal-organic framework for the detection of oxytetracycline in milk

Wanqiong Liu, Zixuan Wu, Jianwei Peng, Zebin Xu, Yong Liang

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are effective carriers for molecular imprinting, but their poor dispersibility in aqueous solution is a significant drawback. In this study, we have applied amphiphilic block copolymers and molecularly imprinted technology on MOFs to improve the hydrophilicity of molecularly imprinted fluorescent materials.
