Summary: We report a case of community-acquired liver abscess and endogenous endophthalmitis caused by a genotype ST25 serotype K2 (ST25-K2) hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae (HvKp) strain. This case indicates that genotype ST25-K2 HvKp strains can cause community-acquired liver abscess combined with endogenous endophthalmitis.

Summary: This article reviews a case of Klebsiella pneumoniae-induced pyogenic liver abscess complicated with endogenous endophthalmitis and summarizes the characteristics, causes, and complications of pyogenic liver abscess based on the literature review. It is suggested that liver puncture drainage and empirical use of antibiotics should be performed promptly for patients with pyogenic liver abscess, especially those with poor glycemic control, to avoid serious complications such as endogenous endophthalmitis.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical features and molecular characteristics of endogenous Klebsiella pneumoniae endophthalmitis (EKPE). Clinical data was collected retrospectively, and K. pneumoniae isolates from EKPE patients were characterized. Results showed that administration of systemic antibiotics and eye treatment within 24 hours of symptom onset was associated with better visual outcomes. Avirulent carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae strains were found to cause EKPE.

It found that diabetes mellitus (DM), involvement of the left or both hepatic lobes, and the adjacent vessels on CT were significant predictors of EE. These findings provide valuable information for early diagnosis of EE.

Summary: Through multivariate logistic regression analysis, we found that the main risk factors for developing endogenous Candida endophthalmitis in candidemic patients include the presence of a central venous catheter, intravenous drug use, immunosuppression, total parenteral nutrition recipient, race, age, and Candida albicans infection. Clinicians should develop targeted and cost-effective screening strategies based on these risk factors.

Summary: Endogenous endophthalmitis is a rare but potentially serious ocular infection with various symptoms such as conjunctival injection, ocular pain, and reduced visual acuity. The diagnosis can be challenging and delayed, leading to poor prognosis. Blood cultures and ocular fluid samples are helpful in identifying the causative pathogen(s), and treatment involves systemic and intravitreal antibiotic therapy, with the use of steroids being controversial. Surgical options include pars plana vitrectomy. Prognosis depends on host and pathogen factors, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.
