Various theories of quantum gravity argue that near the Planck scale, the Heisenberg uncertainty principle should be replaced by the so called generalized uncertainty principle (GUP). We show that the GUP gives rise to two additional terms in any quantum mechanical Hamiltonian, proportional to beta p(4) and beta(2)p(6), respectively, where beta similar to 1/(M(Pl)c)(2) is the GUP parameter. These terms become important at or above the Planck energy. Considering only the first of these and treating it as a perturbation, we show that the GUP affects the Lamb shift, Landau levels, reflection and transmission coefficients of a potential step and potential barrier, and the current in a scanning tunnel microscope (STM). Although these are too small to be measurable at present, we speculate on the possibility of extracting measurable predictions in the future.

Massless charged particles tunneling radiation from a RN-dS horizon and the linear and quadratic GUP

Elias C. Vagenas, Ahmed Farag Ali, Mohammed Hemeda, Hassan Alshal

Summary: This paper investigates the massless Reissner-Nordstrom de Sitter metric in the context of minimal length scenarios, proving the confinement of energy density of massless charged particles and their ability to tunnel through the cosmological horizon. The massless particles may interact with Dirac sea, appearing outside the cosmological horizon in dS/CFT holography, potentially providing a fundamental reason for the expansion of the Dirac sea. This could lead to a spacetime Big Crunch.

Bounds on GUP parameters from GW150914 and GW190521

Ashmita Das, Saurya Das, Noor R. Mansour, Elias C. Vagenas

Summary: Through the analysis of gravitational wave data from GW150914 and GW190521 events, bounds on GUP parameters for two versions were computed. The study calculated the speed of gravitons and photons in a curved spacetime modified by GUP, leading to constraints on the GUP parameters based on the difference in their speeds. These bounds represent some of the best results obtained in the context of quantum gravity phenomenology.

Hubble tension bounds the GUP and EUP parameters

Summary: In recent years, research has supported the proposal that uncertainty principles can solve the Hubble tension, leading to a study of an isotropic and homogeneous FRW universe and the modifications of the Hubble parameter by GUP and EUP models. It is suggested that the characteristics of quantum gravity also affect the CMB.

Quantum corrections enhance chaos: Study of particle motion near a generalized Schwarzschild black hole

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of quantum corrections on chaotic behavior in the dynamics of a (massless) probe particle near the horizon of a generalized Schwarzschild black hole. The study considers two possible origins for the modification of the black hole metric and shows that in both cases, the metric extensions lead to chaotic behavior, with chaos reached at relatively lower particle energy levels.
