Summary: Catalytic methods for converting industrial organic wastes into valuable carbon nanostructures are currently being widely studied. This research focuses on the investigation and characterization of the electronic state of carbon nanomaterials obtained through the catalytic decomposition of 1,2-dichloroethane and co-substrates over a Ni-Pd alloy. The results provide important data for understanding surface reactions on catalytic particles and controlling the molecular structure of carbon nanostructures.

Summary: The reaction of benzimidazolone derivatives, or their thio- or aza-counterparts, with an isocyanide in the presence of acetone unexpectedly gave rise to novel tricyclic benzodiazepine derivatives in good yield. However, benzimidazole starting substrates bearing an electron-withdrawing group resulted in dihydroquinoxaline derivatives instead. The use of deuterated acetone instead of acetone significantly affected yield and reactivity in the four-component reaction but not in the three-component reaction.

Summary: An efficient one-pot, three-component process has been developed using a catalytic amount of Fe(iii) porphyrin for the synthesis of benzimidazole derivatives. The reaction involves domino C-N bond formation and cyclization reactions of benzo-1,2-quinone, aldehydes, and ammonium acetate as a nitrogen source, leading to the selective production of benzimidazole. Several benzimidazole derivatives have been successfully synthesized with high yields using this method under mild reaction conditions.

Summary: Researchers designed and synthesized a porphyrin-based covalent organic framework (COF) called Porph-UOZ-COF. The COF exhibited outstanding catalytic performance under visible-light, without the need for additives or metals, and could be reused. This study demonstrates the potential of COFs as metal-free catalysts for tandem reactions.

Summary: An efficient and environmentally benign one-pot condensation reaction was achieved using 1,4-diazabicyclo[2-2-2]octane supported on Amberlyst-15 as a novel catalyst. The reaction involved cyclic diketones, aldehydes, and naphthols, resulting in the synthesis of various benzoxanthenones with good to excellent yields. The advantages of this reaction include the use of a heterogeneous catalyst, solventless conditions, atom-economical methodology, and low E-factor values. Seventeen xanthene derivatives, including two novel molecules, were synthesized and characterized. Aromatic aldehydes with electron-withdrawing groups showed excellent yields, and aliphatic aldehydes also gave appreciable results. The catalyst exhibited full recyclability and could be reused up to six times.

Summary: A new low-cost bimetallic nanoalloy of CuBi was successfully fabricated on carboxylated MWCNTs, demonstrating significantly enhanced visible light-driven photocatalytic removal of fluoroquinolone-type antibiotics (Ciprofloxacin and Ofloxacin) compared to pure CNTs. The ultrathin 2D nanosheets of CuBi alloy were uniformly distributed on the CNTs bundles, contributing to the high photocatalytic oxidation rate of the CuBi-nanoalloy/MWCNTs.

Summary: Nickel and cobalt-based titania-supported bimetallic catalysts with varying metal loading were synthesized. High-loading catalysts showed higher activity and stability, with 25NCT catalyst exhibiting the highest methane conversion and carbon yield. The catalyst's enhanced activity can be attributed to its higher specific surface area and the formation of carbon nanotubes through tip-growth and base-growth mechanisms.

Summary: The new MnO2/carbon@carbon nanotubes (MnO2/C@CNT) shell-core nanohybrid synthesized in this study showed enhanced degradation of tetracycline (TC) with MnO2/C@CNT-PMS systems exhibiting the best TC degradation efficiency at 85.6% in 10 minutes. The stripping and insertion of nanocarbon during synthesis enhanced electron transfer and conversion of Mn and O species, with SO center dot-4 identified as the main active specie during the catalytic reaction. LC-MS analysis was used to propose reasonable degradation pathways of TC.
