Summary: The consumption of synthetic cathinones has been increasing in recent years due to its affordability and accessibility as an alternative to amphetamines. Developing procedures capable of detecting and monitoring their consumption is crucial, and urine has been widely used for this purpose as it is non-invasive and provides larger sample volumes than other biological matrices. Chromatographic techniques are the most reported approach for determining cathinones in urine samples.

Summary: In this study, a multi-input capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detector (MICD)-D-4 was proposed with high sensitivity, and further improved by combining it with differential detection to form (DFMICD)-D-4. The new detector showed improved performance compared to traditional single-input and double-input detectors, with a higher response-to-baseline ratio and a low limit of detection (0.7 nM). It can be applied to the detection of low-conductivity solutions and total dissolved solids (TDS) analysis, demonstrating its versatility and superiority over standard conductivity meters.

Summary: The study investigated the determination of artemisinin and its analogs using MEKC coupled with mass spectrometric detection. It was found that in addition to artemisinin, a variety of other organic components could be separated and determined in the ethanolic extracts of Artemisia annua leaves. Furthermore, diastereomers of several compounds were identified in the plant extracts using MEKC-MS.

Summary: This study aimed to establish pediatric reference intervals (RIs) of hemoglobin fractions using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and capillary electrophoresis (CE) in children and adolescents aged 1-18 years. The study found that HbA2 RI was 2.00-2.90% by HPLC and 2.2-3.0% by CE, and partitioning by age was suggested by CE but not by HPLC.

Summary: This study compared the analysis of opioid peptides using on-line solid-phase extraction capillary liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (SPE-CapLC-MS) and on-line solid-phase extraction capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry (SPE-CE-MS). The SPE-CapLC-MS method showed improved detection limits and sensitivity compared to the CapLC-MS method. A comparison with the valve-free C18-SPE-CE-MS method revealed noticeable differences in operation and instrumental setup.

Summary: This study developed and validated a cost-effective and reliable HPLC method for quantifying clarithromycin in tablets. The proposed method showed good linearity, precision, accuracy, robustness, and specificity, and was comparable to capillary electrophoresis and bioassay methods. Therefore, it can be used as an alternative method for routine quality control of clarithromycin, especially when other methods are not accessible.
