Summary: This study investigated factors associated with the restarting of therapeutic antibiotics within 30 days of head and neck microvascular free tissue transfer (HN-MFTT). The results showed that aerodigestive reconstruction, 24-hour postoperative antimicrobial prophylaxis, American Society of Anesthesiologists class 3 and 4, prior chemotherapy/immunotherapy, cardiovascular disease, and osteocutaneous flaps were associated with the reinitiation of antibiotics.

Case report: Microsurgical replantation of heel skin and subcutaneous tissue

Summary: A 36-year-old healthy male patient presented to the emergency room 3 h after a laceration to the left foot caused by a porcelain shard. Microsurgical replantation of the amputated tissue, consisting of skin and subcutaneous layers, was successfully performed. The patient had excellent aesthetic and functionality outcomes during the 37-month follow-up, suggesting that microsurgical replantation is a feasible option for heel amputation management.

Summary: Computed tomography angiography (CTA) is used to assess the vascular anatomy of the deep inferior epigastric artery perforator (DIEP) flap for autologous breast reconstruction. It has been observed that there are variations in the vascular anatomy among patients, including the presence of anomalous peritoneo-cutaneous perforators. The routine use of preoperative CTA enables the safe identification of these significant peritoneo-cutaneous perforators.

The effect of chemotherapy on the complication rates of breast reconstruction: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Thermal Challenges in Dynamic Infrared Thermography Used for Perforator Mapping

Summary: The aim of this study was to explore the different approaches to thermal challenges, both cold and warm, used in dynamic infrared thermography for reconstructive surgery, and investigate whether it affects the success of preoperative perforator mapping. The results showed that cold challenges were overall superior to no challenge and warm challenges. However, this conclusion is limited by the small participant size, the possibility of detection bias, and poor methodology detailing. Larger scale studies and the use of standardized equipment are needed to further investigate and compare different approaches.

Quantification of level I neck lymph nodes for lymph node transfer in lymphedema treatment: an anatomical study and review of literature
