Summary: The study found an association between portion sizes of energy-dense foods and obesity in European adolescents. In males, consuming breakfast cereals and carbonated soft drinks was associated with higher BMI, while in females, consuming bread and rolls was associated with higher probability of obesity. Eating sweet bakery products was linked to a lower probability of obesity in females.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the associations between portion sizes (PSs) from different food groups and energy, as well as nutrient intakes in European adolescents. The results showed that energy intake increased with elevated intakes of energy-dense foods. Larger portions of certain food groups were associated with increased intake of specific nutrients. Conversely, larger portions of high energy-dense foods were associated with lower intake of vitamins and micronutrients. These findings have implications for future dietary guidance and targeted strategies to address nutrient intakes in European adolescents.

Summary: The study found that smaller and regular food portions are more liked by consumers, while larger portions evoke more negative emotions. Moreover, small portions have similar emotional profiles as regular portions, while large portions evoke more negative emotions. Facial expressions as an implicit measure also showed similar results.

Summary: Portion sizes of meals have been increasing and this is related to the onset of obesity. Little research has been done on the influence of body weight on portion size preferences. Factors such as gender, age, hunger, and eating behaviors contribute to portion size choices.

Summary: The study assessed the response of the US food industry to the call for reducing portion sizes by comparing current sizes with past sizes of selected ultra-processed packaged and fast foods. The findings show that few companies have actually decreased portion sizes since 2002, with most still selling portions significantly larger than when first introduced. Policies and practices focused on reducing portion size could help discourage the consumption of excessive amounts of ultra-processed foods.

Summary: Food portion size estimation is a critical task in dietary assessment, and augmented reality technology, specifically the VAPS application, has been developed to aid in this process. The VAPS app allows users to estimate portion sizes by presenting 3D food models in an AR environment. While the health science group performed faster in task completion, both health science and non-health science groups displayed equivalent accuracy in food portion estimation using VAPS.

Summary: Most mothers are aware of the issue of large portion sizes of high energy density (HED) foods, but strategies to reduce portion sizes are not always implemented at home. Inconsistencies were found between observations at home, food diaries, and interview reports for some families. Mothers expressed the need for more support and guidance to decrease the intake of HED foods for their children.

Summary: Young Australian adults exhibit high consumption of Energy Dense and Nutrient Poor (EDNP) foods, and socio-psychological factors and food related lifestyle are important factors influencing their consumption. The existing research framework may need to be further extended to explain their consumption behavior.

Summary: This narrative review provides evidence on the impact of food portion sizes on obesity in children and adolescents. Portion size has a strong effect on food intake, especially with energy-dense foods, and this effect is persistent regardless of demographic characteristics. Further research is needed to determine the causal link between portion size and obesity in order to provide strategies for promoting healthy eating habits.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to measure attention to food cues after engaging in multitasking or a single sustained attention task, and to examine the associations with weight status and excess consumption. The results showed that attention to food cues was greatest following multitasking and weakest following a sustained attention task. There was a significant positive association between first fixation duration and BMI-Z when measured after multitasking. Overall, multitasking may disrupt the cognitive system and increase attention to food cues.

Summary: This study aimed to characterize continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) metrics over 24 hours in women with gestational diabetes (GDM) and the moderating effect of treatment strategy. The results showed significant variability in glucose levels throughout the day, with the highest variability in the morning. Additionally, individuals assigned to diet+metformin had greater difficulty managing glycemia, and increased dietary protein intake may assist with the management of dysglycemia.

Summary: This study presents the first national-level report on the state of women's preconception health in England. It found that certain preconception health issues, such as smoking, lack of folic acid supplementation, and previous pregnancy loss, have a high prevalence among women in England. Inequalities in these health issues were observed based on age, ethnicity, and area-based deprivation level. The study suggests the need for improved strategies to address women's preconception health and reduce socio-demographic inequalities.

Summary: Optimum nutrition is crucial for good health. The Nutrition Society of the UK and Ireland and the Sabri ulker Foundation organized a hybrid conference in Istanbul to emphasize the importance of nutrition. The conference aimed to inspire healthcare professionals and policymakers to consider nutrition in their interactions with patients and the public, in order to reduce the prevalence of non-communicable diseases. The event provided an opportunity to share and learn from different approaches and initiatives in the UK, Turkey, and Finland, with a focus on research and translation into nutrition policies.

Summary: This study investigated the association between kidney size at birth and markers of kidney function at 7-11 years. The findings suggest that foetal kidney volume is associated with small increases in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) in mid-childhood. Summary: The food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) is a commonly used method in nutritional epidemiology to assess an individual's habitual dietary intake. This study evaluated the validity and reproducibility of the FFQ used in the DCH-NG cohort. Results showed that the FFQ provided satisfactory rankings of energy, nutrient, and food group intakes, making it suitable for epidemiological studies investigating diet and disease outcomes.
