Summary: Multi-omic profiling of patients with coronary artery disease reveals links between alterations in the serum metabolome with genetics, diet, and the microbiome. The study found that these metabolomic alterations are associated with metabolic impairment preceding clinically overt coronary artery disease. The results highlight the importance of understanding risk-factor heterogeneity in coronary artery disease through the serum metabolome.

Summary: This study compares the outcomes of multiarterial grafting and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with multivessel coronary disease. It found that multiarterial grafting is associated with fewer adverse events, improved survival, and reduced hospital readmissions for appropriate patients.

Summary: This study assessed the zinc nutritional status in patients with coronary artery disease using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry. The results showed no association between zinc and the severity of coronary artery disease, and there were no significant differences in zinc levels between patients with acute coronary syndrome and stable coronary artery disease. However, a significant negative correlation was observed between zinc content and serum triglyceride concentration, and patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus had lower hair zinc content.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the prevalence and prognostic implications of coronary artery disease (CAD) in patients with the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The results showed that the prevalence of preexisting CAD in COVID-19 patients was approximately 12.6%, and these patients had a two-fold increased risk of short-term mortality. Additionally, age, hypertension, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease were found to influence the association between CAD and prognosis.

Summary: This study from the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities study found that higher intake of ultra-processed foods among middle-aged US adults was associated with an increased risk of coronary artery disease. Further prospective studies are needed to confirm these findings and investigate the underlying mechanisms of how ultra-processed foods may affect health.

Summary: This study found that high levels of physical activity are negatively correlated with cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality, indicating that high PA can reduce the risk of CVD and overall death. The research also suggests that even among individuals at high risk of CVD, high levels of PA do not pose additional risks.

Summary: The study found a marked decline in coronary heart disease (CHD) mortality over the past 10 years, regardless of whether individuals had a history of CHD, with the decline being more pronounced in those without a prior history of CHD. This suggests that the decrease in CHD mortality is not solely attributed to invasive medical and surgical treatments, but also to improved lifestyle, pharmacologic treatment of risk factors, and public health interventions.

Summary: This study investigated the associations between different dietary sugars and the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD). The results showed that higher intake of total glucose equivalents (TGE), total sugar, and added sugar were associated with increased CHD risk, while fructose equivalents (TFE) and fructose from fruits and vegetables were not.

Summary: Taking care of pregnant patients with parathyroid disorders requires consideration of changes in bone and mineral metabolism. The diagnostic and therapeutic approaches differ from the nonpregnant population. Parathyroidectomy is recommended for primary hyperparathyroidism before pregnancy to reduce complications. Conservative treatment and active surveillance are recommended for hypoparathyroidism. Postpartum monitoring is necessary, as there is an increased risk of hypercalcemia.
