Summary: The post-flood relief and recovery activities in the Punjab region of Pakistan highlight the importance of conducting realistic need assessments in humanitarian fields. The results of the HESPER survey revealed significant discrepancies between the needs reported by affected populations and those perceived as necessary by relief agencies, leading to the proposal of an adapted HESPER version more suitable for South Asian countries.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the challenges, competencies, and supportive care needs of women with breast or gynecological cancer during acute cancer treatment. The study found that patients felt challenged by psychological distress and physical complaints, and only a small proportion reported supportive care needs, mainly related to psychological concerns. The extent of challenging coping tasks, patients' perceived abilities to overcome challenges, and supportive care needs were associated with patient competencies and health literacy.

Summary: This study investigates the prevalence of perceived stigma among advanced cancer patients in six developing Asian countries, as well as the associated risk factors and its impact on treatment preferences. The results show that a significant percentage of patients experience cancer-related stigma, which is influenced by health-risk behaviors, unemployment, body image changes, and the passage of time. Perceived stigma is associated with lower odds of preferring life-extending treatments.

Summary: This study investigates the challenges, competencies, and support in breast and gynecological cancer patients' information needs, and how health literacy can be improved through the interplay of these factors. The findings reveal the challenges patients face in accessing and processing information, and the competencies they possess in regulating their information needs and making informed decisions. Support from professionals, relatives, peers, and facilities is crucial in enhancing patients' health literacy.

Summary: The user-centered design perspective suggests that healthcare places should improve their environmental quality to meet users' needs and facilitate higher levels of satisfaction, wellbeing, and quality of life. This research aimed to verify the structure and reliability of indicators for the hospice environment and detect their association with overall satisfaction. Participants included patients, relatives, and staff of Italian hospices. Significant relationships were found between most indicators and overall users' satisfaction.

Summary: Multikinase inhibitors (MKIs) have significantly changed the treatment paradigm for advanced thyroid cancer, showing good efficacy but also causing adverse events related to nutrition and cachexia. It is important to prevent, recognize, and carefully manage nutritional issues during MKI therapy to maintain quality of life and treatment effectiveness.

Summary: This review summarizes current research evidence on the care needs of older patients with advanced cancer, including disease management, treatment, and treatment-related side effects. It highlights the unique care needs of older patients and the lack of comprehensive understanding due to insufficient research evidence. Future efforts should focus on developing better assessment methods and interventions to address the care needs of older patients with advanced cancer.

Summary: In recent years, lung cancer classification has undergone significant changes with the identification of new therapeutic targets through genomic profiling. Targeted therapies have shown promising results in treating molecularly-defined NSCLC, but acquired resistance remains a challenge. Recent clinical trials have demonstrated the effectiveness of MET kinase inhibitors in treating METex14 NSCLC, although response rates are still lower compared to other oncogene-driven lung cancers. Understanding resistance mechanisms and developing new strategies are crucial for improving the efficacy of MET TKIs.

Summary: The aim of this study was to validate the PALCOM scale, which is a tool used to assess the complexity of palliative care needs in cancer patients. The results showed a high correlation and accuracy between the PALCOM scale and expert empirical assessment, indicating that the scale is a high precision tool for determining the level of complexity of palliative care needs.

Summary: Most women with advanced breast cancer in Ghana have high supportive care needs, but they do not access the available services due to lack of awareness or accessibility issues. Younger women have greater psychological and sexuality needs compared to older women. Targeted interventions are needed to address the supportive care, spiritual, and service needs of these women.

Summary: Self-perceived burden (SPB) is negatively associated with quality of life (QoL) in advanced cancer patients, with existential distress (ED) and anxiety partially mediating this relationship. Additionally, ED has a direct effect on anxiety, which subsequently affects QoL. These findings highlight the importance of comprehensive interventions targeting anxiety and ED to improve QoL in advanced cancer patients.

Summary: One third of older people residing in the community have completed an ACD, with higher participation in financial planning than medical planning, especially in terms of wills and enduring power of attorney. The diagnosis of a life-limiting illness is most likely to prompt completion of an ACD.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of health assessments on permanent residential aged care admission for older Australian women with and without dementia. The results showed that women who had health assessments were less likely to be admitted to residential aged care in the short term (100 days), regardless of dementia status. However, there were no significant differences at 500- and 1000-days follow-up. At 2000-days follow-up, women who had a health assessment were more likely to be admitted to residential aged care, regardless of dementia status.
