Summary: This study aimed to determine the conditional loss in expectation of life (LEL) due to colorectal cancer (CRC) for surgically treated patients in the Netherlands. The results showed that LEL decreased with older age, patients with rectal cancer or higher disease stage had the highest LEL. It was also found that CRC patients experienced a decrease in conditional LEL during follow-up.

Summary: In treating nasopharyngeal cancer patients, excellent tumor control and survivor rates can be achieved with intensity-modulated radiotherapy. However, treatment-related toxicities impact the quality of life of NPC survivors. This study estimated life expectancy, quality-adjusted life expectancy, and survival-weighted psychometric scores in NPC patients, providing insights for policymakers on resource allocation.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the total life expectancy and duration of frailty state in older adults in China. The findings showed that the average total life expectancy for older adults aged 65 years in China was 14.74 years, of which 4.18 years were robust, 7.46 years were pre-frail, and 3.10 years were frail. Socioeconomic status, healthy behaviors, and social participation were found to be associated with robust life expectancy.

Summary: The review aims to identify and evaluate different cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) modelling methods used in CRC screening programs globally. The study will systematically search electronic databases and use PRISMA guidance recommendations and CHEERS statement to extract relevant data. The results will provide insights into the utilization of health economic modelling methods in CRC screening programs worldwide and aid in developing tailored CEA models for specific screening programs.

Summary: This study describes the creation of an interactive dashboard to analyze the COVID-19 pandemic from an equity and urban health perspective in 30 large US cities. The dashboard provides valuable insights for policymakers and allows for interactive comparisons of COVID-19 inequities across different cities.

Summary: The study aimed to examine gender differences in disability-free life expectancy (DFLE) and DFLE/LE ratio among older adults in China, and to explore the changing trends from 2010 to 2020, as well as the implications for public policies. Mortality data and disability rate data from the Sixth and Seventh China Population Census were used to estimate LE, DFLE, and DFLE/LE ratio by gender. Results showed that from 2010 to 2020, both male and female older adults in China experienced an increase in DFLE along with life expectancy. However, there remained a gender difference in DFLE/LE ratio, particularly among the oldest old age group (age 80 and above), with female older adults having a lower ratio compared to male.

Summary: This study aimed to determine whether combining patient reported and claims based health measures into prediction models improves performance. The results showed that adding claims based and patient reported health measures significantly improved the predictive accuracy of the models for predicting other cause mortality, with the full model incorporating all three types of measures performing the best.

Summary: This study utilized the laboratory-wide association study (LWAS) method to analyze the associations between routine laboratory tests and survival in veterans with prostate cancer. The researchers identified multiple laboratory tests associated with survival, which can be used to inform the design of clinical trials and aid in shared decision making for patients.

Summary: This study developed a life table for people with disabilities (PWDs) and calculated the life expectancy (LE) and healthy life expectancy (HALE) based on sex, severity, and disability types. The results showed that PWDs had lower LE and HALE compared to the general population, and there were variabilities based on disability types.

Summary: Gene fusions in colorectal cancer patients, while rare, provide new therapeutic opportunities. This study used a commercially available NGS-based fusion panel to assess the rates of gene fusions in MSI/RAS-BRAF(c) CRC patients. The results showed a fusion rate of 25.9% in MSI/RAS-BRAF(WT) samples, mainly involving NTRK1/3, ALK, and BRAF. These findings highlight the overrepresentation of targetable gene fusions in MSI/RAS-BRAF(WT) CRC patients, suggesting the use of a two-step algorithm for molecular screening.

Summary: Gun violence is a major contributor to premature deaths and racial disparities in life expectancy in the United States. Community-based interventions are crucial in reducing gun violence without worsening the harm caused by criminal justice approaches. A survey conducted in Chicago in 2021 revealed that the majority of violence interventionists were male and Black, with many experiencing work-related violence exposure and victimization. The results emphasize the need to prioritize worker safety, reduce violence exposure, and provide support to frontline practitioners in community violence intervention.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between psychological distress and disability-free life expectancy (DFLE). A cohort study was conducted on 12,365 Japanese individuals aged 65 years and above, and follow-up was done for 13 years. The study found that the greater the psychological distress, the greater the loss of disability-free life expectancy, which was observed in both men and women.

Summary: This study evaluated estrogen exposure measurement and the mutual effect of age at menarche and age at menopause on the risk of cardiovascular disease events. Reproductive lifespan was the most commonly used method for estrogen exposure measurement. The findings suggest that a shorter reproductive lifespan is associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular disease events, particularly stroke.

Summary: The study found that a shorter reproductive lifespan was associated with a higher risk of incident stroke, with a 7% decrease in stroke risk per 1-year increase in reproductive lifespan. Endogenous oestrogen and total oestrogen exposure did not improve the model of just using reproductive lifespan as a predictor of incident stroke.

Summary: The maternal diet before pregnancy plays a critical role in influencing the weight outcomes in offspring. Higher adherence to a quality preconception diet was associated with a reduced risk of childhood underweight and obesity. Additionally, maternal sodium intake was significantly linked with a decreased risk of childhood overweight and obesity in children.
