The uncontrolled activity of these proteases can lead to diseases, but their actions are regulated by serine protease inhibitors to maintain physiological functions.

Summary: This study investigated the effectiveness of pembrolizumab with or without chemotherapy in treating advanced-stage head and neck cancer. The results showed that pembrolizumab with chemotherapy had better treatment outcomes compared to pembrolizumab alone. Additionally, pembrolizumab was found to be durable and effective in treating head and neck cancer patients.

Summary: In this study, selective and high-affinity inhibitors of KLK5 and KLK7 were identified using phage display. The stability and half-life of the inhibitors were improved by eliminating proteaseprone sites and conjugating them to an albumin-binding peptide. These inhibitors were shown to reach the target KLKs in mouse epidermis and have the potential to control deregulated protease activity in Netherton syndrome.

Summary: This study demonstrates that serine protease inhibitors can block necrosis triggered by CD44, preventing cell death in GM-CSF-primed neutrophils. The inhibitors inhibit the activation of MLKL, p38 MAPK, and PI3K. However, they have no effect on apoptosis mediated by the FAS receptor.

A serpin (CvT-serpin15) of teratocytes contributes to microbial-resistance in Plutella xylostella during Cotesia vestalis parasitism

Summary: The study revealed that a serpin (CvT-serpin15) secreted by teratocytes can interfere with the growth of Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, and increase the survival rate of Plutella xylostella infected by S. aureus. This suggests that CvT-serpin15 plays a role in boosting the host immune system during parasitism, ultimately protecting the development of the wasp larva from bacterial infection.

This review provides a contemporary summary of how to incorporate immunotherapy into the management of advanced NMSC, focusing on evidence-based outcomes and recent clinical trials for the three most common NMSC diagnoses: basal cell carcinoma (BCC), cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC), and merkel cell carcinoma (MCC).

Spatiotemporal expression and regulation of peptidase inhibitor 3 and secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor at the maternal-fetal interface in pigs

Summary: This study investigates the expression, regulation, and function of PI3 and SLPI at the maternal-fetal interface in pigs. The results show that PI3 and SLPI are expressed in the endometrium and conceptus tissues of pigs, with higher levels during late pregnancy. In endometrial explant cultures, the expression of PI3 is induced by increasing doses of progesterone, while the expression of SLPI is induced by increasing doses of estradiol and progesterone.

Changes in Vestibular Function in Patients With Head-and-Neck Cancer Undergoing Chemoradiation

Summary: This study investigated the effects of cisplatin-based chemoradiation on the vestibular system in patients with head and neck tumors. The results showed a significant decrease in the median gain of the video head impulse test and an increase in refixational saccades 6 weeks after chemoradiation. There were also significant changes in the vestibular evoked myogenic potential testing results. However, none of the patients reported dizziness during the follow-up examinations.

Augmented reality with HoloLens in parotid surgery: how to assess and to improve accuracy

Summary: The study aimed to assess the feasibility of using 3D augmented reality holograms in live parotic surgery and to develop an accuracy measuring instrument. The results showed that training experimenters and using fiducial markers significantly improved the accuracy of the holographic system. The precision of the measuring system was high, with a mean error of 1.3 mm, and feedback evaluation indicated a positive attitude towards the potential role of HoloLens in surgical education and clinical practice.
