Summary: Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that has a significant impact on society. The hippocampus is affected in the early stages, and the medial septum plays an important role in generating brain rhythms in the hippocampus. This study used a computational model and electrophysiological recordings to understand the dynamics of oscillation regulation in the hippocampus during degeneration in Alzheimer's disease. The results showed that selective stimulation of healthy cholinergic neurons in the medial septum was sufficient for network recovery.

Summary: This paper describes the design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of selective inhibitors of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS). The most potent and selective compound showed inhibitory activity against iNOS without undesirable cardiovascular effects. In silico analysis predicted good drug-likeness properties for promising compounds, which also exhibited adequate cell viability. Docking studies revealed a unique binding mode for one compound and explained its selectivity towards iNOS.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the interactions between nitric oxide synthase (NOS) isoforms and proteins, as well as the mechanisms by which they mediate S-nitrosylation. The results showed that each NOS isoform interacts with and S-nitrosylates many proteins, but a large proportion of S-nitrosylated proteins are not associated with NOS. Additionally, the interactomes and S-nitrosylomes of individual NOS isoforms are largely unique, indicating specific roles for each isoform in S-nitrosylation.

Summary: The results of the study indicate that 10 weeks of social isolation led to a significant decrease in PPI, accompanied by a decrease in NOS activity in the cerebral cortex and the cerebellum, an increase in iNOS in the hippocampus, and an increase in CD concentration in cortex homogenate. On the other hand, 29 weeks of social isolation had an opposite effect on NOS activity, with an increase in the cerebral cortex and the cerebellum in animals reared in a social environment, accompanied by a decrease in CD concentration.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effects of edaravone administration on cellular and electrophysiological properties in a rat model of vascular dementia induced by bilateral carotid artery occlusion. The results showed that vascular dementia led to increased MDA levels, neuronal loss, reduced hippocampal volume, and impaired synaptic plasticity and memory function. However, treatment with edaravone decreased MDA levels, prevented neuronal loss and hippocampal volume reduction, improved synaptic plasticity and memory function.

Summary: The study evaluated the therapeutic effect of valproate (VPA) treatment on cognitive impairment, hippocampal neuronal loss, and spatial memory deficits induced by cerebral ischemia. The results showed that VPA treatment significantly reduced the infarct volume and improved spatial learning-memory, fear memory, and anxiety. The induction of long-term potentiation via postsynaptic mechanisms may be responsible for the improvement in cognitive impairment.

Summary: This study analyzed the changes in dendritic structure and spine density in CA1 and CA3 neurons in different sexes and age groups. The findings showed that in early adolescence, male rats had more dendritic intersections and spine density in CA1 neurons, while in young adulthood, young female rats had more intersections. The differences in dendritic structure in CA3 neurons also varied between different sexes and age groups.
