Summary: The use of telemedicine services has grown exponentially due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to it becoming a major method of healthcare for many patients. However, there is a need to understand the quality of clinical care provided in the telemedicine environment. This position paper by the American College of Physicians presents 6 recommendations to ensure the appropriate use of performance measures in evaluating the quality of clinical care in telemedicine.

Summary: This article aims to describe effective telemedicine communication between healthcare professionals and patients. The article discusses the terminology, important forms, and applications of telemedicine in asthma and allergies. It concludes that telemedicine reduces costs and time but cannot fully replace face-to-face visits. Additionally, confidentiality and information security are important from an ethical perspective.

Summary: Telehealth services are seen as a complement to in-person neurologic care, with a focus on supporting patient access regardless of location. The American Academy of Neurology advocates for coverage of telehealth services by all subscriber benefits, equitable provider reimbursement, simplified state licensing requirements, and expanding telehealth research and quality initiatives. Roles and responsibilities of providers should be clearly defined in telehealth service models.

Summary: In recent years, discoveries in neuroscience have had a significant impact on therapeutic practice, particularly in terms of redesigning narratives and sense of self to address mental health crises and traumatic events. The relationship between neuroscience and psychotherapy is becoming increasingly intense, with studies exploring neuropsychological modification of memory traces, neurobiology of attachment theory, cognitive mechanisms in psychopathology, neurophysiology of human empathy, neuroimaging evidence of psychotherapeutic treatment, and somatoform disorders linking the brain and body. This article critically examines literature in this sector and argues that psychotherapy needs to adopt a neuroscience-based approach to provide tailored interventions for specific patient groups and therapy settings. Recommendations for implementing such care in clinical practice and future research challenges are also discussed.

Summary: In comparing the SNOT-22 and EPOS-defined symptoms in relation to Lund-Mackay scores, both had similar discriminatory capacity when assessed through ROC-AUC, but the SNOT-22 showed a stronger association in ordinal regression analysis. Understanding the implications of different patterns of symptoms is important, especially in situations where in-person exams are limited.

Summary: Cancer patients are at higher risk for severe COVID-19 infection and associated complications, requiring special attention in management and prevention. Screening interviews and telemedicine play important roles in preventing infection spread and monitoring infected patients from home. Managing complications of anticancer treatments, particularly febrile neutropenia, is crucial in minimizing infection risk and hospital visits during the pandemic.

Summary: Significant advances have been made in the systemic treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma in the last 5 years, with new drugs and treatment strategies emerging. Prolonged survival exceeding 2 years is expected in most patients, and selecting the right medication based on patient characteristics and preferences is crucial for sound therapeutic decisions.

Summary: Music generation using deep learning has gained attention, but current models lack musical structure and creativity. Researchers highlight the need for more human control and interaction, as well as precise musical style concepts. Future research directions may involve multi-agent systems and reinforcement learning algorithms to address these issues.

Summary: Chemotherapy-induced febrile neutropenia (FN) is a common oncological emergency. Although evidence suggests that low-risk cases of FN can be managed at home, most patients with FN who go to the emergency department are admitted. FN risk stratification tools, such as MASCC and CISNE scores, may be useful in determining patient disposition.

Summary: Chemotherapeutic drugs can induce hypersensitivity reactions, being the third leading cause of fatal drug-induced anaphylaxis. Deaths related to chemotherapy have been reported in Europe and the United States. The European Network on Drug Allergy organized a task force to provide data and recommendations regarding allergological work-up in this field.

Summary: Studying the human brain during interpersonal interaction can provide insights into motor control and cognition. Hyper scanning allows simultaneous measurement of brain activity in multiple individuals, primarily in healthy participants, with potential applications in rehabilitation paradigms for patients with neurological diagnoses. The technique could offer additional insights on neural dynamics and optimize rehabilitation strategies for individuals with impaired motor function, although technical limitations need to be considered.

Summary: The SiRS-CoV-2 pandemic has led to rapid dissemination of digital healthcare modalities, but social determinants of health may impact readiness for telemedicine, potentially leading to individuals being lost to care. Furthermore, sensitive discussions required in ID and HIV practice may pose challenges in video conferencing settings.
