Summary: The study investigated the relationship between asprosin and metabolic syndrome in hemodialysis patients. Higher levels of asprosin were associated with an increased risk of metabolic syndrome. Fasting serum asprosin could be an independent risk factor for metabolic syndrome in these patients.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) among Jiarong Tibetans in Aba Plateau, identified three major dietary patterns (traditional Tibetan, urbanized, and healthy), and found a significant association between the healthy dietary pattern and a lower risk of MetS. No significant statistical association was found between the risk of MetS and the traditional Tibetan and urbanized diet patterns.

Summary: This study compared glycemic profiles between type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) patients with and without metabolic syndrome (MetS). The results showed that T1DM patients with MetS had higher baseline HbA1c levels and higher CV values, but other glycemic metrics were comparable between the two groups.

Summary: This study aimed to identify factors associated with polypharmacy among patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The study found that older age, high Health Assessment Questionnaire Disability Index, medication with glucocorticoids, a history of hospitalisation in internal medicine, and visits to other internal medicine clinics were associated with polypharmacy. Excessive polypharmacy was associated with the presence of public assistance. Therefore, medication during hospitalisation should be monitored, and glucocorticoids should be discontinued.

Summary: This study found a high prevalence of polypharmacy, potentially inappropriate medications, and major drug-drug interactions among community-dwelling general practice patients aged 75 and older. Polypharmacy was significantly associated with a higher number of major drug-drug interactions, chronic conditions, lower affective status, and lower quality of life. Physicians should pay special attention to patients with multiple chronic conditions and reduced health and affective status.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of multimorbidity and polypharmacy in hospitalized older patients. It found that multimorbidity was highly prevalent and polypharmacy was common. Factors such as older age, polypharmacy, and prolonged hospitalization were associated with more morbidities. Age, number of morbidities, and hospitalization duration were potential risk factors for all-cause death. However, the number of medications and polypharmacy were associated with a decreased risk of mortality.

Summary: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a common complication of schizophrenia that is exacerbated by long-term use of antipsychotics. The study found that levels of leptin were significantly increased in MetS patients, while ghrelin levels were significantly decreased. There were fewer significant correlations between ghrelin and other hormones in MetS patients compared to those without MetS.

Summary: This study examined the prevalence and associated factors of antipsychotic polypharmacy (APP) among schizophrenia patients in comprehensive specialized hospitals in Northwest Ethiopia. The findings showed that longer duration of illness and treatment, frequent admissions, and substance use were significantly associated with APP. Therefore, these patients require close follow-up and monitoring to minimize the use of antipsychotic medications.

Summary: This study examines the association between physical restraint duration and undesirable outcomes in inpatients with dementia and pneumonia. The use of physical restraints is found to be associated with lower discharge rates and increased risk of functional decline. Further research is needed to assess the benefits and risks of using physical restraints in acute care settings.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the incidence of liver injury associated with acetaminophen compared with loxoprofen and celecoxib over a 1-year period. The results showed that acetaminophen was not non-inferior to loxoprofen or celecoxib in terms of the incidence rate of liver injury. Therefore, the non-inferiority of acetaminophen to loxoprofen and celecoxib in terms of the risk of liver injury in clinical practice is inconclusive.
