Summary: The study highlights the need for vocational rehabilitation programs to be incorporated into comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation programs in order to identify individuals in need of support and to improve coordination of care across healthcare and social care sectors. This includes involving employers, healthcare professionals, and social workers in personalized return-to-work strategies.

Summary: This systematic review examined the effects of a multidisciplinary intervention on pain, functional status, and return to work in adults with (sub)acute low back pain. The review found that multidisciplinary intervention was more favorable for pain intensity and functional status compared to usual care, but the effects on return to work were less clear.

Summary: This study explored physicians' experience with return-to-work coordinators (RTWCs) and identified factors influencing their collaboration or referral of patients to RTWCs in primary, orthopaedic, and psychiatric care clinics. The findings showed that physicians were more likely to collaborate with RTWCs and refer patients to them if they had a positive experience. They were also more likely to collaborate if they dealt with problematic sick-leave cases, patients with multiple diagnoses affecting work ability, and conflicts over sickness certification.

Summary: From the perspective of patients, this study suggests that having more contacts with an RTWC is associated with perceiving more support in the return-to-work process. The involvement of an RTWC in designing a rehabilitation plan is also associated with perceiving more support and having a more positive emotional response to the RTWC.

Summary: The study concluded that a 12-week coordinated work oriented multidisciplinary rehabilitation intervention did not significantly impact sickness absence, disability, pain, or health related quality of life compared to usual care. Both groups showed improvements in various outcomes, with no statistically significant differences between them.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the return-to-work rates of employees after COVID-19 and examine predictors of absence duration. The study found that individuals with COVID-19 had notably later return-to-work compared to those with flu-like symptoms. Older age, female sex, belonging to a risk group, and symptoms such as shortness of breath and fatigue were the main predictors of delayed return-to-work.

Summary: Return-to-work coordinators (RTWCs) in Sweden support people on sickness absence and their training and competence vary based on their original professions. Counselling professions were more likely to have further training, especially in conversation methods, and occupational therapists and social workers were seen as having the best competence for the coordinating role.

Summary: This study investigated the prerequisites for support, knowledge, and information related to decision making in individuals on sickness absence due to common mental disorders. The findings revealed challenges in decision making processes, such as ambiguous roles, uncertain knowledge base, and perceived barriers and enablers. The study suggests the need for a complex perspective, collaboration, and shared decision making in addressing sickness absence and rehabilitation processes.

Summary: This study reported the outcomes of a multidisciplinary rehabilitation programme for chronic low back pain patients, finding significant improvements in patient function and successful return to work for some patients. Lower initial job demand level and higher patient-perceived back function were associated with a greater likelihood of returning to work, as demonstrated by a multivariate logistic regression model.

Summary: This study investigates the prevalence and intensity of low back pain (LBP) in people with lower limb amputation (LLA) through an online questionnaire. The results show that LBP is more common in LLA individuals compared to the general population, with similar levels of pain intensity and frequency. This highlights the importance of educating this population about the benefits of physical activity.

Summary: In patients with chronic non-specific low back pain, reduced lumbar-hip ratios during reaching tasks and slower reaching times suggest a compensatory movement strategy that may be important in the development and progression of LBP. No significant effects of sex or interactions between group and sex were observed for any outcome.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of a single bout of game-based real-time feedback intervention on trunk movement in patients with chronic non-specific low back pain (CLBP). The results showed no significant change in the main movement plane, lateral flexion, but a significant decrease in trunk extension/flexion in the upper trunk segment after the intervention.

Summary: This study compared the effects of brief intervention and multidisciplinary intervention on return to work for low back pain patients. The results showed that employees with strong job relations had higher return to work rates and spent more time at work when receiving brief intervention. There was no difference in intervention groups for employees with weak job relations.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effect of adding Motivational Interviewing to a PAM-based intervention in community-dwelling older adults. The results showed that participants in the PAM+MI group walked on average 909 more steps per day than those in the PAM group, though the difference was not significant. Additionally, the PAM+MI group reported a decrease of 2.3 points on the UCLA Loneliness Scale.

Summary: This study investigated the effectiveness of including an app-based approach (InterWalk) in municipality-based rehabilitation for individuals with type 2 diabetes. The results showed that this approach did not significantly increase moderate-and-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) time over 52 weeks. However, there were potential benefits for physical health-related quality of life.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the feasibility of using a smart t-shirt for home monitoring of biometric sensor data in adolescent cancer patients. The smart t-shirt is designed with multiple embedded sensors and electrodes, providing various continuous measurements. A total of 20 Danish cancer patients will be recruited, with half of them being adolescents or young adults and the other half being elderly. The primary outcome of the study is to determine the feasibility of wearing the smart t-shirt throughout the day.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the effectiveness of physical activity monitor (PAM) based interventions among adults and found that PAM interventions can effectively increase physical activity and moderate to vigorous physical activity. However, the effect might be overestimated due to publication bias.
