Summary: The study found that a considerable proportion of extremely tall children have underlying primary or secondary growth disorders, with risks associated with auxological parameters. Clinical features related to syndromic tall stature were surprisingly frequent in children with ITS, suggesting potential underdiagnosis of syndromic growth disorders.

Summary: This article highlights the importance of developing and implementing a multicentre registry to gather data on the prevalence, aetiology, and functional outcomes of arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC). The registry aims to improve the health of children with AMC through genetic and outcomes research, ultimately identifying new therapeutic targets and diagnostics. The article provides details on participant recruitment, data collection and analysis, and ethics and dissemination of research findings.

Summary: This study aimed to identify factors affecting performance on the tandem gait test in healthy, physically active adults. Results showed that sex, concussion history, number of trials, and foot length had little to no influence on test scores, and turning times were more variable than times on the straight portions.

Summary: This study analyzed the postural stability of physically inactive prisoners and found that they performed worse in several stability parameters. It is therefore recommended to perform early diagnosis of aging symptoms in prisons for better prisoner management, leisure activity provision, and fall prevention. In addition to addressing typical causes of balance disorders, measures should be taken to counteract the specific causes of balance disorders in the prison environment, such as implementing programs that comprehensively activate prisoners and physical activity programs catering to the needs of older prisoners.

Summary: The study found that while the prevalence of exposure to severe physical constraints increased in French workers in 2017, exposure related to a hazardous physical environment sharply decreased. Inequalities in exposure also intensified over the period, particularly disadvantaging blue-collar workers. The situation worsened for shift workers in terms of exposure to vibrations and awkward postures.

Summary: Due to increased work demands, personal support workers (PSWs) are experiencing more work-related injuries. However, little is known about the physical demands of PSW work tasks. This study aimed to identify physically demanding tasks as perceived by PSWs and the contextual factors that influence physical demands. The findings can be used to develop physical employment standards and task-specific education and training to prevent injuries among PSWs.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of an active exoskeleton on back muscle activity when lifting weights. It was found that the use of the active exoskeleton significantly reduces muscle activity and perceived exertion. Therefore, active exoskeletons provide noticeable support when lifting heavy weights, reducing muscle activity and pressure on the lumbar region.

Summary: The study found an association between the rs1800012 variant in COL1A1 and musculoskeletal injuries, with GT heterozygotes having twice the risk of injury compared to homozygotes. However, no significant associations were found between COL5A1 variants and susceptibility to injury, nor were any important gene-gene interactions identified in relation to musculoskeletal injury status.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the risk factors for mid-late term revision of knee replacement. By analyzing linked national datasets, the researchers found that factors such as age, gender, weight, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, preoperative and postoperative pain and functional limitations were associated with the risk of mid-late term revision.

Summary: This scoping review focused on research in musculoskeletal disorders with high frequency follow-up of symptoms. The majority of studies examined short-term effects of symptoms on each other, but there is a lack of research on the long-term effects of symptom variability. Further research in this area is needed to help clinicians prioritize symptoms in patient care.

Summary: The Stress, development and mental health study (TAM) is a cohort study investigating risk and protective factors regarding mental health and well-being from adolescence to midlife. Participants were Finnish-speaking pupils from the Tampere region in Finland, and the study has yielded numerous publications examining mental health and various factors from different perspectives. Future research areas include longitudinal associations between mental health and substance use, family transitions, and retirement.

Summary: Chronic musculoskeletal pain is a prevalent and distressing condition that can negatively impact all aspects of life. This study aims to investigate the acute effects of exercise on gait kinematics and muscle activity in patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain compared to healthy participants, which has important implications for the management and rehabilitation of chronic pain.

Summary: Microbreaks, consisting of short and active interventions, were found to be effective in reducing musculoskeletal discomfort and pain in veterinary undergraduates. These interventions also increased the students' self-efficacy in handling potentially risky human-animal interactions. The study suggests that similar programs should be included in veterinary undergraduate curricula to improve the students' working environment and workload.

Summary: The risk of musculoskeletal injury (MSKI) is increased after mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), and this increased risk persists up to 2 years after mTBI relative to non-mTBI individuals and pre-mTBI selves. The underlying neuromuscular mechanisms contributing to this increased risk have yet to be definitively determined. This study aims to elucidate these mechanisms and track patient outcomes up to 12 months.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of non-surgical treatment and written advice on patients with knee osteoarthritis over a period of five years. The results showed that there were no significant differences in outcomes between the two treatment groups. Most patients experienced clinically important improvements regardless of the initial treatment strategy or knee replacement surgery.
