Summary: This meta-analysis aimed to estimate the prevalence of overdiagnosis and overtreatment in patients with a clinical diagnosis of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The results showed that a large proportion of patients are erroneously diagnosed with COPD when spirometry is not used, and approximately half of them are also incorrectly treated.

Summary: This study investigated the association between liver damage and the severity of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) using individual participant data meta-analysis. The results confirmed a strong association between OSA severity and liver steatosis, with the relationship between OSA and fibrosis mainly attributed to BMI as shown by causal mediation analysis.

Summary: The article proposes replacing personality disorders with a new classification of interpersonal disorders. It suggests that the trait model effectively addresses the limitations of categorical syndromes in personality disorders and incorporates the dynamics emphasized in the interpersonal model. Weaknesses of the interpersonal model that have prevented its official adoption are identified.

Summary: The review found that the concentration of GPx-1 is generally lower, while the concentration of GPx-3 does not differ significantly, suggesting an impaired antioxidant defense mechanism in COPD patients.

Summary: This study investigated real-world antibiotic use in the management of AECOPD in China and found potential antibiotic overuse in some patients. Measures should be taken to prevent antibiotic overuse and the development of antimicrobial resistance in Chinese AECOPD patients.

Summary: Narvaez et al. argue against mainstream evolutionary psychology and propose their own developmentally informed theory as an alternative. However, we believe that contemporary evolutionary-developmental accounts have addressed the shortcomings of mainstream evolutionary psychology while maintaining an adaptationist perspective.

Summary: The airway resistome in COPD patients is associated with the inflammatory endotype, and there are distinct resistome profiles based on neutrophilic or eosinophilic inflammation. Different bacterial species, host pathways, and inflammatory markers are associated with these resistome profiles.

Summary: This study offers a critical perspective on the meta-analysis by Elkjaer et al. (2020) and points out three constraints, including open-science practices, study selection, and a broader theoretical perspective. It emphasizes the importance of preregistration and adherence to the highest standards in conducting meta-analyses, identifies missing studies, and suggests linking body positions to the dominance-prestige framework to explain discrepancies in previous research findings. Such an approach has the potential to provide methodological and theoretical innovations to the field of body positions.

Summary: We conducted a meta-analysis to assess the impact of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) on surgical site wound infection and other postoperative problems following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The analysis included data from 37,444 subjects, with 4,320 of them having COPD. The findings showed that COPD patients had a higher risk of surgical site wound infection, respiratory failure, mortality, pneumonia, pleural effusion, stroke, and longer intensive care unit stay compared to subjects without COPD. However, there was no significant difference in length of hospital stay and pneumothorax between the two groups. It is important to interpret these results with caution due to the limited sample size and number of studies in certain comparisons.

Summary: This article discusses the impact of sample size on detecting group differences in ability and introduces an online tool for power analysis through a simulation study. The results show that the approach using the Drift Diffusion Model is superior to analyzing response times and accuracies separately. However, the article also highlights the estimation bias issue with the EZ method.

Summary: This meta-analysis indicates that patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are at a higher risk of developing lung cancer compared to those without COPD. Male patients have a higher prevalence than female patients, and current and former smokers with COPD have higher incidence rates. The risk of lung cancer is also higher in patients with moderate and severe COPD. Adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma are the most common types of lung cancer among COPD patients, and there are regional differences in prevalence.

Summary: Malnutrition is common among patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and negatively affects important clinical outcomes. This systematic review and meta-analysis provide insights into the prevalence of malnutrition and its clinical impact on COPD patients. The findings suggest that malnutrition is associated with poor pulmonary function, increased dyspnea, reduced exercise tolerance, and higher mortality risk in COPD patients.

Summary: This article summarizes the pathophysiology and treatment options for PH in COPD patients, pointing out that current research still does not fully understand its underlying mechanisms, and some of the treatment methods tested in clinical settings have not been effective. Preclinical studies have proposed some treatment approaches.
