Summary: Nurses play a crucial supportive role in shared decision-making about life-prolonging treatment, but not all nurses have the same level of involvement. By checking decision quality, complementing, and facilitating shared decision-making, nurses can enhance the decision-making process. Identified pre-conditions for nurses' involvement include information transfer, positive culture towards nurses' involvement, good relationship with physicians, knowledge and skills, sufficient time, and good relationship with patients.

Summary: This qualitative study explores the attitudes of healthcare professionals involved in counseling parents facing preterm birth on the treatment of extremely preterm infants. The study highlights significant variations in attitudes within and between professional groups regarding parental engagement in decision-making, the importance of potential disability in decision-making, and the use of medical technology. The findings emphasize the need for multidisciplinary training to facilitate a more consistent and individualized approach to parental engagement in decision-making.

Summary: This study aimed to explore physicians' decision-making when managing pediatric patients with prolonged disorders of consciousness (PDOC). The results showed that physicians experienced ambivalence in three domains of care and were aware of the risk of self-fulfilling prophecies. Therefore, further research is needed to improve guidelines and enhance physicians' decision-making awareness.

Summary: This study explored physicians' perceptions of nurses' role in decision-making about potentially life-prolonging treatments in patients with a short life expectancy. The findings revealed that physicians recognized the complementary role of nurses in decision-making, especially in cases with doubts or complex situations. However, there were differences in how important physicians viewed nurses' involvement in the decision-making process, with some considering it situation-dependent and others considering it standard practice. Practical obstacles, such as time constraints, were also mentioned by physicians regarding nurses' involvement.

Summary: This study focuses on two different types of uncertainty classification - direct quantitative uncertainty and indirect qualitative uncertainty. Results from multiple studies suggest that participants update their judgments when dealing with these two types of uncertainties, and it is recommended that forecasters present qualitative expressions of model confidence whenever possible alongside quantified uncertainty.

Summary: This article explores the need and mechanisms for cross-departmental working in local authorities (LAs) in the UK to make decisions about air quality issues. The results show that staff in public health, environmental health, and transport teams recognized the importance of managing air quality as a cross-departmental issue, and identified four successful mechanisms for integrated working: policy commitments and political support, dedicated air quality steering groups, existing governance and oversight groups, and networking and relationships.

Summary: This study explores the role and requirements of GPs in shared decision making (SDM) about palliative cancer treatment. The study finds that GPs can support SDM by checking the quality of a decision, complementing SDM, and enabling the SDM process. They recognize their added value in SDM and identify good collaboration with oncologists, sufficient information, time for conversations, trusting relationships with patients, and patient-centered communication as requirements for supporting the SDM process.

Summary: Technology development in the energy sector often lacks structure in decision-making, leading to wasted time and resources. This paper proposes a simple and scalable approach that can bring quantitative rigor to technology development, improving efficiency and capital allocation. The methodology allows for a structured learning curve and identifies possible commercial deployments and associated risks. By evaluating key metrics and trade-offs, informed decision-making can be achieved. The methodology has been successfully applied in Suncor Energy, informing decisions on millions of dollars of derisking activity spend.
