Summary: This study conducted a pan-genomic analysis of C. amycolatum, a nonlipophilic coryneform that is increasingly recognized as a relevant pathogen with multidrug resistance. The analysis revealed an open pan-genome and the acquisition of antimicrobial resistance genes through genomic islands. Despite the absence of classic corynebacterial virulence factors, genes associated with immune evasion, toxin, and antiphagocytosis were identified.

Summary: This study analyzed the genomes of C. striatum isolates and identified genomic characteristics that contribute to its pathogenicity and multidrug resistance. The research sheds light on the transition of C. striatum from a normal skin microbiome constituent to a multidrug-resistant and invasive pathogen.

Summary: This study demonstrates the antimicrobial activity of the anthelmintic drug niclosamide against multidrug-resistant Corynebacterium striatum, showing bactericidal action and biofilm biomass degradation. These findings suggest the potential repurposing of niclosamide as a therapeutic agent for C. striatum infections.

Summary: The potential pathogenicity of non-diphtheriae corynebacteria has been underestimated for a long time. However, an increasing number of Corynebacterium species are now recognized as opportunistic human pathogens, particularly in hospital settings. This study focuses on the first isolation of Corynebacterium mycetoides from human urine and provides initial insights into its virulence properties. The findings suggest that C. mycetoides may be a potential pathogen for urinary tract infections in humans.

Summary: In this study, a recent strain of Clavibacter sepedonicus, K496, was isolated from potato tubers with vascular cylinder or pith tissue discolorations. The genome sequence of K496 was de novo assembled using Nanopore reads and polished with Illumina reads. The resulting K496 genome consists of a circular chromosome of 3,266,016 bp and a linear plasmid of 135,489 bp. Bioinformatics analysis predicted a total of 3,301 genes in the K496 genome, including protein-coding genes, pseudogenes, rRNA-coding genes, tRNAs, and noncoding RNAs.

Summary: Corynebacterium striatum, a part of human skin and nasal mucosa microbiota, is increasingly being identified as the etiologic agent of both community-acquired and nosocomial infections. Multidrug-resistant strains of C. striatum have been associated with various nosocomial diseases worldwide, contributing to fatal invasive infections in immunosuppressed and immunocompetent patients. Improved microbiological techniques have led to better survival rates for patients with C. striatum nosocomial infections, while biofilm formation on abiotic surfaces plays a role in the persistence of virulent strains and the spread of antimicrobial resistance.

Summary: The pilot study identified a diverse range of Corynebacterium species on human skin, including previously unreported species. The study revealed individual variations in biochemical and resistance profiles among the strains. This highlights the importance of cultivation-based studies in understanding the properties of these microorganisms.

Summary: Decades ago, two Corynebacterium species were proposed and divided into biovars. Several strains classified as C. genitalium biovar I and Corynebacterium pseudogenitalium C5 have been isolated, and comprehensive analysis supports their recognition as distinct species within the genus Corynebacterium. The type strains for C. genitalium and C. pseudogenitalium are designated as Furness 392-1T and Furness 162-C2T, respectively.

Summary: This study investigated the incidence of Yersinia enterocolitica strains in food samples in China, revealing a low contamination rate, predominance of biotype 1A and serotype O:5, sensitivity to tetracycline, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, and chloramphenicol, and resistance to ampicillin and amoxicillin/clavulanic acid. The strains were divided into seven clusters based on their genetic characteristics. Additionally, the study highlighted the potential risk of Y. enterocolitica contamination associated with stringent cold storage methods.

Summary: This study isolated and identified four lytic Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteriophages, which showed activity against a wide range of P. aeruginosa strains under various temperature and pH conditions. The phages had high sequence identity to Pseudomonas phage PAK_P1 and were assigned to the Pakpunavirus genus. This research contributes to establishing phage therapy as an alternative strategy for managing multidrug-resistant P. aeruginosa infections in Tunisia.

Summary: This study assembled and analyzed the chloroplast genomes of the genus Sabia, revealing a relatively conserved genome structure with multiple variable loci. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the two sections of Sabia did not form separate monophyletic groups. Divergence time calculations showed that the evolutionary branches of Sabia and Meliosma began approximately 85.95 million years ago, with species within Sabia diverging around 7.65 million years ago.

Summary: A strain named LCFJ-001 of Pantoea ananatis was isolated for the first time in the western part of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, from bacterial wilt-diseased roots of mulberry. It was proved through Koch's postulates that LCFJ-001 can cause mulberry wilt. The complete, annotated genome sequence of P. ananatis LCFJ-001 is reported.
