Summary: The study found that the preoperative serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) level and total tumor volume (TTV) ratio have a significant impact on tumor recurrence and prognosis of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after liver transplantation. AFP/TTV>2 is an independent risk factor for poor prognosis and early tumor recurrence in HCC patients after liver transplantation.

Summary: Tumor burden score (TBS) is a feasible new prognostic marker in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients undergoing transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), with higher TBS associated with factors such as vascular invasion and abnormal blood markers, leading to poorer overall survival rates.

Summary: The study evaluated the prognostic impact of the ADV score for predicting HCC recurrence and patient survival after LDLT in 843 HCC patients. The ADV score showed a significant correlation with TR and OS, providing further prognostic stratification beyond existing criteria. Compared to pre-existing selection criteria, the ADV score with a cutoff of 5log exhibited the highest prognostic contrast for TR and OS, making it a valuable prognostic tool for posttransplant prognosis in HCC patients.

Summary: This study examined the factors associated with tumor recurrence in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients who received preoperative locoregional therapy (LRT). It found that poor tumor differentiation, high cellular proliferation rate, and cholangiocytic/HPC phenotype were associated with recurrence. Furthermore, it identified certain features related to tumor treatment with LRT.

Summary: The study investigates the clinical impact of C-11-choline positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients undergoing hepatectomy. Results show that Barcelona stages and metabolic tumor volume (MTV) are independently associated with overall survival. Incorporating C-11-choline PET/CT into the HCC staging system may provide better prognostic refinement.

Summary: This study identified three key genes related to the TME and had prognostic significance in HCC, which may be promising markers for predicting immunotherapy outcomes. The higher immune/stromal/Estimate scores were significantly associated with better survival benefits in HCC, while the tumor purity showed a reverse trend. DEGs based on both immune and stromal scores primarily affected the cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction signaling pathway, with CASKIN1, EMR3, and GBP5 genes found most significantly associated with survival.

Summary: Alterations in protein glycosylation have an impact on tumor progression and immune responses in the tumor microenvironment. In this study, researchers evaluated the expression and role of KRTCAP2 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). They found that high expression of KRTCAP2 was associated with unfavorable prognosis in HCC and correlated with the immune microenvironment. The findings suggest that KRTCAP2 could serve as a prognostic marker for HCC patients and have implications for predicting immunotherapeutic responsiveness.

Summary: This study revealed a positive correlation between TMB value and older age, male gender, and early T status in HCC. A risk score based on three hub genes significantly influenced overall survival time, immune cell infiltration, and ICB-related hub targets. The prognostic performance of the risk score was validated in an external testing group, and a risk-clinical nomogram was constructed for clinical application. HTRA3 was identified as a prognostic factor in HCC, and TP53 mutation did not interfere with the risk score-based prognostic prediction.

Summary: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a major cause of cancer death worldwide. Late diagnosis and limited treatment options contribute to the low survival rate of patients with HCC. Currently, combining ultrasound with the biomarker AFP is a commonly used screening method, but its clinical utility and operator-dependence are controversial.

Summary: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a major cause of cancer death in Taiwan. This study aimed to investigate the secular trends of HCC characteristics and survival in recent decades. The overall survival of HCC in Taiwan has been improving, possibly due to increased early-stage patients and the aging population. The proportion of viral-related HCC is decreasing, while nonviral-related HCC is increasing.

Summary: Ascites is highly prevalent in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and is associated with increased mortality. The albumin-bilirubin (ALBI) grade and EZ (easy)-ALBI grade are used to assess liver dysfunction in HCC, and both can stratify overall survival in HCC patients with ascites. Factors such as serum bilirubin level, creatinine level, alpha-fetoprotein level, tumor volume, vascular invasion, distant metastasis, performance status, and treatment type are independently associated with increased mortality in ascitic HCC patients.

Summary: By analyzing national registers in Taiwan, we found that parents who experienced the death of a child had an increased risk of mortality. This risk was higher for bereaved mothers than fathers. The cause of the child's death did not affect the risk, but parents whose child died from unexpected causes were at greater risk. Additionally, the risk was higher when the child was older than 1 year at the time of death.

This study compared four albumin-based liver reserve models (ALBI/EZ-ALBI/PALBI/PAL) versus MELD in HCC patients undergoing transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) and found that all four albumin-based models were better prognostic tools than MELD scores. Among them, PALBI score was the best model for evaluating liver reserve.
