Summary: The diagnostic and therapeutic pathway of vulvar cancer has a severe impact on the psychosocial and psychosexual equilibrium of affected women. Women diagnosed and treated for vulvar cancer are at higher risk of psychological distress, sexual dysfunction, and dissatisfaction with partner relationships. This article aims to review the psychological, relational, and sexual issues experienced by women with vulvar cancer, highlighting the importance of this issue and improving the quality of care offered to these patients. Implementing an integrated care model can help identify unmet needs and improve the quality of life of these women.

Summary: This meta-analysis of RCTs found that replacing face-to-face hospital care with telemedicine did not worsen psychosocial outcomes for adult cancer patients, and in fact, showed significant improvements in quality of life, anxiety, and distress. However, more research is needed to determine the impact on depression and the specific patient population that may benefit the most from telemedicine in oncology.

Summary: This study examined the association between posttraumatic growth (PTG) among young adults during the COVID-19 pandemic and their psychosocial characteristics. Findings showed that PTSD symptoms and COVID-19-related worry predicted higher levels of PTG while depression symptoms predicted lower levels. Resilience and family connectedness were positive predictors of higher PTG levels.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between signs/symptoms of anxiety-depression, sociodemographic factors, parafunctional habits, bruxism, and the presence and severity of the symptoms of temporomandibular disorder (TMD) in Turkish adults. The results of the study suggest that females and those who report bruxism, parafunctional habits, and signs/symptoms of anxiety-depression are more likely to show symptoms of TMD with different severity.

Summary: This study explored the relationships between body image, personal investment, and psychosocial outcomes in individuals with amputations and diabetes using White's theoretical model. The results showed that body image disturbance mediated the relationship between personal investment and psychosocial outcomes, as well as between self-ideal discrepancy and psychosocial outcomes. The findings emphasize the importance of addressing body image in psychological interventions for individuals with health conditions.

Summary: This study compared the psychosocial outcomes of adult childhood cancer survivors with the general population and identified sociodemographic and medical risk factors. The results showed that childhood cancer survivors had similar self-esteem and anxiety levels, but were less depressed. However, their health-related quality of life was poorer, except for bodily pain. Factors such as female sex, lower education level, lack of relationship, and unemployment were negatively associated with most psychosocial outcomes. Few medical characteristics were found to be related to psychosocial outcomes, except for central nervous system tumor diagnosis. Future research should investigate additional factors such as coping, social support, and physical late effects in explaining the psychosocial functioning of cancer survivors.

Summary: This article presents a protocol for a randomized controlled trial (RCT) aimed at assessing the (cost-) effectiveness of adding Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBTi) to usual care for depression. The study hypothesizes that the addition of CBTi to depression treatment will result in significant improvements in treatment outcomes, quality of life, and a decrease in healthcare and societal costs.

Summary: This umbrella review examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health. It found that depression, anxiety, and general mental health symptoms have increased in the general population and in individuals with chronic physical health conditions during the pandemic. The increase in depression symptoms was larger and longer-lasting compared to anxiety symptoms. Females and younger age groups showed a greater increase in anxiety symptoms. However, the methodological quality of the included reviews was generally low to moderate.

Summary: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are crucial in mental health research for confirming intervention effectiveness and guiding treatment decisions. However, the quality of RCT evaluations in this field is often poor, with common errors including inadequate handling of missing data, inappropriate analyses, and insufficient reporting. These deficiencies pose a threat to the robustness of mental health research and patient care. This article provides mental health researchers with a better understanding of high-quality RCT evaluations and guidelines for implementing best practices using open-source statistical software.

Summary: Common mental disorders, such as depression and anxiety, are leading causes of disability worldwide. In low-resource settings, psychosocial interventions delivered through task-sharing modalities have been proven effective in expanding access to mental healthcare. However, the specific components of these interventions that are most efficacious in reducing symptoms of common mental disorders, and for whom, have yet to be substantiated by evidence.
