Summary: The study introduces the PFA-100 system, a platelet function analyzer designed to measure primary hemostasis. The system is able to detect various platelet defects and shows high accuracy in discriminating normal and abnormal platelet function. It is a useful tool for screening patients with platelet-related hemostasis defects.

Summary: The study demonstrates a dose-independent effect of aspirin on the platelet transcriptome, potentially acting as an inhibitor of protein synthesis, and correlated with platelet function levels.

Summary: This study evaluated the agreement of four different testing platforms used to monitor antiplatelet effects. The results showed that LTA and VerifyNow had the highest agreement for P2Y12-I response, followed by moderate agreement between LTA and WBA. In terms of ASA response, LTA and AspirinWorks showed moderate agreement, while WBA showed the weakest agreement with both LTA and AspirinWorks.

Summary: In this study, the role of complement in E. coli-induced platelet aggregation in human whole blood was investigated. The researchers found that compstatin, an inhibitor of complement component C3 cleavage, reduced E. coli-induced platelet aggregation. Contrary to previous belief, the aggregation was not C3a-mediated but rather dependent on C3b. Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa and complement receptor 1 (CR1) were also found to be involved in the aggregation process. These findings provide insights into the mechanism of platelet aggregation regulated by complement in bacterial infections.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the platelet function of neonates born to mothers with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). The results showed that neonates from the GDM group demonstrated a more hyporesponsive phenotype of their platelets.

Summary: The study found that LTA and PFA-100 (R) are not interchangeable in assessing ASA and clopidogrel non-responsiveness in patients undergoing neuroendovascular interventions. There was poor agreement between the two tests for clopidogrel non-responsiveness. Higher levels of von Willebrand factor were associated with clopidogrel non-responsiveness, while LTA-assessed clopidogrel non-responsiveness was associated with diabetes and higher BMI.

Summary: This manuscript introduces a new in vitro system, PFA-100(R), for detecting platelet dysfunction. The system provides a quantitative measure of platelet function by generating platelet plugs on a membrane. The test is sensitive to platelet adherence and aggregation abnormalities, and offers the advantages of accuracy, ease of operation, and rapid results.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of MICELI in platelet aggregation testing in whole blood and found that it had similar effects compared to LTA. Platelet aggregation in whole blood as recorded by EIA was found to be a better model system for evaluating platelet reactivity.

Summary: In this study, serum thromboxane B2 (sTXB2) measurement was suggested as an alternative method to identify aspirin-treated ischemic stroke patients at risk of enhanced platelet reactivity and subsequent vascular events. Results showed that sTXB2, with a cut-off level of >4.15 ng/mL, could distinguish patients with elevated platelet reactivity with a sensitivity of 84.3%, and was in fair agreement with the LTA-based classification of patients. On the other hand, soluble P-selectin levels showed no discriminatory ability in identifying at-risk patients.

Summary: This study evaluated the use of hirudin anticoagulated blood compared to citrate in rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM) in thrombocytopenic patients. The results showed higher platelet aggregation with hirudin compared to citrate, particularly in patients with severe thrombocytopenia. Therefore, the use of hirudin anticoagulation is important for platelet function tests, especially in patients with severe thrombocytopenia.

Summary: Platelet gene polymorphisms are associated with variable on-treatment platelet reactivity and differ by race. African-Americans demonstrated lower platelet reactivity at baseline and on treatment compared to European-Americans. European-Americans experienced greater platelet suppression on aspirin and ticagrelor than African-Americans.

Summary: The study found that the newly developed PET radioligand C-11-PS13 selectively binds to COX-1 in humans and can be used to evaluate the potency of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs. Ketoprofen exhibited a greater inhibitory effect on COX-1 compared to celecoxib, while aspirin had minimal effect on C-11-PS13 binding.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the associations between thromboelastography 6s (TEG6s) measurements and postoperative ischemic complications in patients with unruptured intracranial aneurysms (UIAs) treated by coil embolization. The results showed that MAADP and ADP% can serve as reliable parameters to predict postoperative ischemic complications after coil embolization of UIAs.

Summary: This study evaluated platelet function in qualified blood donors and found that some of them had abnormal platelet function. Further research is needed to understand the impact of platelet dysfunction in blood donors on the clinical efficacy of their platelet components. The study also confirmed the influence of ABO blood group on platelet function tests.
