Summary: In allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation between HLA-identical siblings, minor histocompatibility antigens manifest as a set of peptides originating from annotated proteins and non-annotated open reading frames, which can evoke a donor immune response. The attribution of the immune response and consequent clinical outcomes to individual peptide components within this set may vary from patient to patient.

Summary: This study investigated the molecular polymorphism of two minor histocompatibility antigens in the Tunisian population. The results showed a high frequency of immunogenic variants and carriers of specific HLA molecules in Tunisians, similar to other populations. These findings have important implications for clinical and anthropological studies.

Summary: Blood transfusion is a banned doping method that is detected by identifying variations in blood group minor antigens on red blood cells' surface. Transfusion practices have regained interest since the introduction of erythropoietin detection method.

Summary: This study demonstrates that deplasmated and leukodepleted red blood cells (RBCs) do not contain significant amounts of immune globulin, and transfusions with these RBCs do not require delayed vaccinations. The removal of IgG content from the RBC units ensures the absence of anti-COVID-19 antibodies, even from donors with high serum titre.

Summary: This study evaluated the relationship between the storage length of leukoreduced red blood cells and the incidence rate of hospital-acquired infections in critically ill children. The findings showed a significant association between transfusion of leukoreduced RBC units stored for >= 35 days and an increased HAI incidence rate.

Summary: Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) play a crucial role in suppressing immune rejection in organ transplantation. This study aimed to investigate the effect and underlying mechanism of BMSCs on immune rejection in renal transplantation. The results demonstrated that BMSCs alleviated immune rejection in renal transplantation mice by promoting B cell activation and the production of IL-10+ regulatory B cells (Bregs) via the facilitation of a proliferation-inducing ligand (APRIL) phosphorylation. Overall, the findings suggest that BMSCs prevent renal transplant rejection through the induction of IL-10+ Bregs by facilitating APRIL phosphorylation.

Summary: This study compared the use of Nageotte hemocytometer and flow cytometry (FC) for quality control of LD red blood cell units. The results showed that FC provides a more precise and accurate objective tool compared to Nageotte hemocytometer, which is a reliable alternative in resource-constrained settings.

Summary: This study aims to test the efficacy of high-titre COVID-19 convalescent plasma (CCP) administered early in preventing hospitalization or death in high-risk patients. The study will enroll two cohorts of vulnerable patients, including elderly and immunocompromised patients. The efficacy of CCP will be evaluated through clinical trials and the results will be published in peer-reviewed journals.
