Summary: The study found that individuals reporting daily urinary urgency had lower bacterial diversity in their gut microbiome, lower abundance of Bifidobacterium, and higher abundance of Faecalibacterium compared to non-OAB individuals.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to characterize patients seeking treatment for urinary urgency with or without urgency urinary incontinence. Participants were followed for 1 year, and their symptoms, psychosocial factors, bowel function, sleep disturbance, physical activity levels, physical function, and quality of life were compared. The results showed that patients with urgency urinary incontinence had more severe symptoms, higher levels of psychosocial symptoms, poorer physical functioning, and worse quality of life compared to patients with urinary urgency-only. The study suggested that urgency urinary incontinence may be a more severe manifestation of urinary urgency.

Summary: This study explored the impact of comorbidities of diabetes and hypertension, which are known risk factors of atherosclerosis, on the symptoms and treatment response of overactive bladder syndrome (OAB) patients. The results showed that OAB patients with both comorbidities had more severe symptoms compared to those with either comorbidity alone. However, the impact of comorbidities on baseline symptoms such as incontinence intensity, frequency or nocturia, and patient perception of bladder condition was inconsistent or absent. Having either comorbidity alone was associated with a smaller improvement of symptoms, while the combination of both comorbidities had a greater effect, although the overall attenuation associated with comorbidity was small.

Summary: In older adults with overactive bladder (OAB), urinary urgency induces changes in gait similar to those caused by a distracting task, increasing the risk of falls. This may explain the association between falls and lower urinary tract symptoms in older people. Future research should explore the effects of pharmacological treatment of OAB on gait and dual-task training on gait during urgency.

Summary: Overactive bladder and urge urinary incontinence affect millions of people and result in substantial healthcare costs. Concerns over side effects of common medications have led to increased interest in sacral neuromodulation as a potential therapy. The Axonics System is considered safe and effective for treating these conditions, with the added convenience of being rechargeable and MRI safe.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of vitamin D supplementation in preventing or treating overactive bladder and urinary incontinence in men. The results showed that overall, vitamin D supplementation did not improve overactive bladder or urinary incontinence compared to placebo. However, there were inconsistent findings when vitamin D supplements were used in men with lower levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of parasacral and tibial nerve transcutaneous electrical stimulation in improving urinary urgency in adult women. Both groups showed positive effects in reducing urinary urgency, with the parasacral group demonstrating superiority in certain outcomes. Transcutaneous parasacral electrostimulation was found to be superior to tibial electrostimulation in terms of quality of life.

Summary: This randomized clinical trial found that neuro-adaptive therapy (NAT) was more effective than a sham procedure in treating urge incontinence due to an overactive bladder. The response rate in the NAT group was 70% compared to 48% in the placebo group. The positive effects of NAT were observed both immediately after treatment and at long-term follow-up.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the relationship between OAB medication adherence and different types of medication with UTI risk. The study found that during the follow-up period, neither adherence nor different types of medication had an impact on UTI risk, regardless of UTI history or sex.

Summary: The study found that selective bladder denervation (SBD) for refractory overactive bladder syndrome (rOAB) reduced OAB symptoms and improved quality of life. However, the decrease in urgency voids was offset by an increase in nonurgency voids, suggesting that habit or defensive voiding is a significant driver of urinary frequency.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the efficacy of the mobile app Tat II for self-management of urgency incontinence (UUI) and mixed incontinence (MUI) in women. Results showed that the treatment app significantly improved incontinence symptoms in the treatment group, indicating that the app is effective in improving incontinence.

Summary: This study aimed to test the effect of reducing the intake of irritating beverages on void frequency in women. Through guidance, women were instructed to replace listed beverages with non-irritants in one group, while the other group received healthy eating guidance. The results showed that reducing the intake of potentially irritating beverages while maintaining total fluid intake did not predict void frequency.

Summary: This study investigated the role of urinary biomarkers in discriminating different bladder and bladder outlet dysfunctions in women with frequency-urgency syndrome. The results showed that there were significant variations in the urinary levels of inflammatory, neurogenic, and oxidative stress biomarkers among patients with different urodynamic subtypes. These findings suggest that the presence of varying bladder inflammation and oxidative stress conditions may have an impact on treatment outcomes in women with frequency-urgency syndrome.

Summary: Younger patients tend to choose lower doses initially, while dose escalation is associated with changes in urgency and incontinence episodes. Baseline values have a significant impact on treatment outcomes, and dose escalation after 4 weeks can benefit patients with initially limited improvement.

Summary: In this paper, an optimal ureter stone detection model utilizing multiple artificial intelligence technologies is proposed. The model merges an artificial intelligence model and an image processing model, resulting in a multimethod approach for urinary tract stone detection. The results show that the proposed method achieves high accuracy in detecting urinary tract stones, confirming its potential in supporting actual surgery.

Summary: Underactive bladder and impaired bladder compliance are irreversible problems associated with bladder fibrosis. Remodeling of the extracellular matrix is considered as an important mechanism in bladder fibrosis. However, various risk factors and conditions contribute to the functional impairment of the bladder due to fibrosis, and there is limited knowledge in the field of neurourology. Further studies are necessary to elucidate the underlying mechanism of bladder fibrosis and to identify effective treatment.
