Summary: There is no legally established perinatal hospice institution in the Czech Republic, but several initiatives are working towards establishing one to support parents. Due to limitations in the medical and legal frameworks, parents are seeking change and using various strategies to establish these institutions. The study shows that competition and cooperation are tactics used by these initiatives to attract funding and ensure sustainability.

Summary: This study examined the association between maternal residential proximity to greenspace and structural birth defects. The results showed that living closer to greenspace during pregnancy is associated with a reduced risk of certain birth defects, especially among those living in rural or high-income neighborhoods.

Summary: This qualitative study explored the experiences of obstetric nurses and midwifery professionals with the Perinatal Bereavement Care Training Programme (PBCTP) after implementation. The findings showed that the PBCTP met the learning and skills enhancement needs of nurses and midwives, and had a positive impact on their care for bereaved families. The optimized training programme should be widely applied in the future, and efforts from hospitals, managers, obstetric nurses, and midwives are needed to promote a supportive perinatal bereavement care practice.

Summary: Preterm birth can be caused by various factors including maternal age, health, previous obstetric history, and social factors. A cross-sectional study of 495 mother-infant pairs was conducted to identify contributing factors to preterm birth. The study found that living in rural areas, lower education level, and running one's own business were associated with higher rates of preterm birth. Additionally, pregestational diabetes mellitus and older age at the time of giving birth were also identified as risk factors.

Summary: The VARIVAX Pregnancy Registry studied women who received VARIVAX vaccine during pregnancy from 1995 to 2013, and found no association between varicella vaccine exposure and congenital varicella syndrome or major birth defects. However, due to small sample sizes, varicella vaccine is still contraindicated during pregnancy.

Summary: This study evaluated the role of thyroid autoantibodies in adverse pregnancy outcomes. The results showed that the presence and titer of thyroid autoantibodies do not have a negative impact on gestation if thyroid function is adequately controlled. Although not significant, suboptimal thyroid hormone status may have a greater impact on pregnancy outcomes.

Summary: This study evaluated the risk of adverse perinatal outcomes in pregnant women living with HIV (WLHIV) receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART) compared to ART-naive WLHIV and HIV-negative women. The findings showed that WLHIV receiving ART had a lower risk of preterm birth, low birth weight, and other adverse perinatal outcomes compared to ART-naive WLHIV. However, they still had a higher risk of these outcomes compared to HIV-negative women.
