Summary: The study identified novel gene clusters in Streptomyces strains that have the potential to produce new antibiotics. Additionally, it isolated and analyzed bacteriophages with antibacterial activity, as well as predicted the host ranges of these phages based on the CRISPR-Cas systems present in the strains.

Summary: This study isolated a highly productive laccase-producing bacteria, Bhargavaea bejingensis, from soil samples collected from the paper and pulp industry. The extracellular and intracellular laccase activities of the bacteria after 24 h incubation were 1.41 U/mL and 4.95 U/mL, respectively. The laccase-encoding gene of this bacteria was sequenced and bioinformatically characterized to be structurally and sequentially homologous to the CotA protein of Bacillus subtilis. The laccase produced by B. bejingensis was classified as a three-domain laccase with several copper-binding residues.

Summary: The World Health Organization warns of the increasing deaths caused by antibiotic resistant bacteria and emphasizes the need for short-term alternatives. Recent studies have found that honeybees and their products carry Streptomyces species with strong antibacterial activity. This study investigates the antibiotic profiles of two Streptomyces strains isolated from beehives and suggests their potential in discovering bioactive compounds with antimicrobial and anticancer properties.

Summary: This study investigated the behavior of Salmonella Enteritidis (SE) in the presence of the environmental bacterium Bacillus paramycoides B5 (Bp5) during dual-species biofilm formation. The results showed that SE initial adhesion was significantly enhanced when cocultured with Bp5. Transcriptome analysis revealed differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in SE during dual-species biofilm formation. Genes involved in chemotaxis, flagellar assembly, and two-component system pathways were upregulated, while genes involved in amino acid biosynthesis and metabolism were downregulated. This study provides insights into the enhanced biofilm formation and environmental resistance of SE in dual-species biofilms.

Summary: This study aimed to characterize the effects of ETEC infection, supplementing B. subtilis DSM 25841, or carbadox on intestinal microbiota of pigs. The results indicated that AGP reduced the relative abundance of beneficial bacteria in the intestines, while DFM had higher relative abundance of beneficial bacteria in some intestinal segments.

Summary: In this study, the potential ameliorative effects of probiotic Bacillus subtilis and biodegradable Bacillus subtilis on ZEN toxicosis in gilts were compared. The results showed that the biodegradable Bacillus subtilis had significant protective effects on growth performance, immune function, hormone secretion, and ZEN elimination in gilts compared to the probiotic Bacillus subtilis.
