Summary: The influence of successive treatments on the fiber surface (NaOH, hydrogen peroxide, and acetic anhydride) in palm petiole fiber composites was examined. The treatments were found to improve the interfacial adhesion between the fibers and the matrix, resulting in more rigid and homogeneous composites. The mechanical and morphological properties of the composites were evaluated, and the results indicated the potential of these treated fibers for creating sustainable and eco-friendly materials.

Summary: The study focused on compositions based on bimodal high-density polyethylene and monomodal tercopolymer of ethylene mixtures. Phase equilibrium and thermodynamic parameters were identified through various analysis methods. It was found that the compositions belong to the class of solid crystal solutions with unrestricted mixing of components. Kinetics of interphase boundaries formation during crystallization and morphology of crystallized gradient diffusion zones were analyzed.

Summary: In recent years, the use of natural fibres and biopolymers in many products has gained acceptance due to the serious reduction in petroleum resources and concerns about synthetic plastics. Lignocellulosic fibre polymer biocomposites, particularly those made from oil palm fibres (OPFs), have attracted attention for their wide availability, low carbon emission, and biodegradability. However, the mechanical properties of OPF biocomposites and the factors influencing their performance have not been thoroughly examined.

Summary: This study aimed to produce and characterize biocomposites made of coir fibers as reinforcing material and polypropylene as matrix through thermoforming, analyzing their physical-mechanical properties, thermal stability, and structural changes. Results showed that as the content of coir fibers increased, the strength of the biocomposites decreased, accompanied by a decrease in melting temperature and an increase in thermal stability. The modifications in the structure of the biocomposites were highlighted through ATR-FTIR and SEM analysis by altering the ratio of coir fibers to matrix.

Summary: This study investigated the preliminary degradation of packaging PE film composed of a blend of LLDPE and LDPE using enrichment cultures. The results showed that abiotic aging had a greater impact on the film than thermal aging, and the enrichment cultures were able to increase the oxidation level of the film. Biotic aging also resulted in the deterioration of the film's surface properties. Furthermore, the SEM analysis confirmed microbial growth and utilization of the PE material.

Summary: The study investigated the use of additional water-soluble additives in the production of particleboards from OPEFB, and found that these additives significantly improved the physical and mechanical properties of the particleboards. Different concentrations of polyethylene glycol, acrylamide, and acrylic resin were evaluated, with higher concentrations leading to increased internal bonding and modulus of rupture, while reducing thickness swelling and water absorption. Particleboards with 4% of water-soluble additives met the standard requirements for physical and mechanical properties.

Summary: Torrefaction of oil palm fronds at 300 degrees Celsius for 40 minutes significantly improves the fuel properties, increasing the net calorific value and fixed carbon content. Pellet fuels derived from torrefied biomass exhibit higher calorific values compared to raw biomass, demonstrating the effectiveness of torrefaction in elevating energy output. An optimal mass proportion of torrefied oil palm fronds and used bleaching clay was identified as 70:30, resulting in the highest calorific value recorded.
