Summary: The study found that Japanese patients with alopecia areata had higher body mass index (BMI) and higher intakes of vitamin C and fruit. Retinol intake was positively correlated with severity of alopecia, and patients with atopic dermatitis were younger.

Summary: It has been found that vitamins D, E, and K and carotenoids are not solely absorbed through passive diffusion, but also involve membrane transporters such as SR-BI, CD36, NPC1L1, and ABCA1. Efflux pathways from the enterocyte back to the lumen or from the bloodstream to the lumen, involving ABCB1 or the ABCG5/ABCG8 complex, have also been observed for vitamins D and K. However, no membrane proteins have been identified for dietary vitamin A uptake. This review focuses on the proteins involved in the absorption, transport, secretion, and efflux of fat-soluble vitamins and carotenoids in enterocytes, as well as the remaining mechanisms to be identified.

Summary: This review identifies the current indications and gaps in the management of fat-soluble vitamins in pediatric patients with cholestasis. A comprehensive literature review was conducted, and relevant studies published in the past 20 years were selected. The causes of malabsorption, recommended methods of supplementation, and monitoring complications were discussed. The literature suggests that children with cholestasis are at a higher risk of fat-soluble vitamin deficiency, but there is no uniform validated treatment for vitamin deficiency.

Summary: This study identified a variant in the CYB5A gene that is enriched in Southwest American Indian individuals and associated with increased BMI. Functional analysis showed that this variant decreased luciferase expression and correlated with decreased skeletal muscle CYB5A expression. Another haplotype including this variant was found mainly in SWAI individuals and associated with increased BMI and decreased CYB5A expression, while the most common haplotype in other ethnic groups was associated with lower BMI and higher energy expenditure.

Summary: The study showed that liposomes could improve the bioavailability of vitamin A, while cyclodextrins could enhance the bioavailability of vitamins D3 and E. This may be beneficial for pancreatic-insufficient CF patients, but further research is needed.

Summary: This study aimed to assess whether there are sex differences in the prognostic impact of BMI on in-hospital mortality in sudden cardiac arrest survivors. The results showed that BMI is not a predictor of in-hospital death in either male or female patients.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between obesity, executive functions, and body image in a nonclinical population from southern Italy. The results suggest that better executive functioning predicts a decrease in BMI, partially due to a reduction in avoidance behaviors.

Summary: Lower levels of vitamin A and D are independently associated with fair/poor self-rated health, while no significant associations were observed for alpha-tocopherol levels. Further research is needed to explore the long-term implications of these modifiable nutrients on health status.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a liposomal fat-soluble vitamin formulation containing vitamin K2 in the treatment of cystic fibrosis (CF). The results showed that the liposomal formulation was superior to the standard form in delivering vitamin D3 and E, as well as improving vitamin K-dependent carboxylation and vitamin A status in CF patients.

Summary: A study found that overweight and obesity increased among 3- and 4-year-old children in Sweden during the COVID-19 pandemic. This was especially pronounced in children attending child health centers in lower socioeconomic areas. It highlights the need for efforts to prevent childhood obesity, particularly in disadvantaged areas, due to the potential negative impact of the pandemic on health behaviors in Swedish preschool children.

Summary: Thirteen observational studies found that interpregnancy weight gain is associated with increased risk of GDM in the subsequent pregnancy, while interpregnancy weight loss is associated with decreased risk of GDM. The decrease in GDM risk in the subsequent pregnancy was greater among women with pregestational BMI higher than 25 kg/m².

Summary: This study investigated the association between micronutrient intake and breast cancer risk in South Korean women. The study found that overall, there was no significant association between micronutrients and breast cancer risk. However, in obese women, exceeding the recommended intake levels of vitamin C and vitamin B6 was associated with a lower risk of breast cancer.

Summary: By analyzing a large German primary care provider database, it was found that obesity is a significant risk factor for the development of colon, rectal, and liver cancer, partly depending on sex. Therefore, a careful and structured risk assessment for the development of cancer should be included in the clinical management of overweight patients to improve long-term outcomes.

Summary: This study examined the association between BMI and COVID-19 severity and mortality through a meta-analysis of 16 observational studies involving 109,881 patients. The findings showed a linear dose-response relationship between BMI and critical COVID-19 and mortality, with patients with BMI > 30 kg/m(2) at higher risk. Age and obesity were also found to impact this association.

Summary: Vitamin E deficiency is not only associated with preterm newborns but also found in full-term newborns. This deficiency can compromise neurogenesis in children. Further studies are needed to assess the difference in vitamin E status among newborns of different gestational ages to support neonatal monitoring protocols.

Summary: The breastfeeding policies in the Philippines align with global standards, but their effectiveness is hindered by structural and individual barriers. Structural barriers include inconsistent promotion and limited workplace support, while individual barriers include knowledge and skill gaps, misconceptions, and lack of confidence. Actions are needed to address these barriers and enhance the effectiveness of breastfeeding practices.

Summary: Maternity protection policies in the Philippines align with international standards, but their impact on breastfeeding practices is limited. Coverage and duration of maternity leave entitlements are inconsistent and there are gaps in policy implementation. Integrating maternity protection and breastfeeding promotion interventions is also lacking.
