Summary: This expert group consensus statement highlights the importance of standardizing the definition of progressive fibrosing interstitial lung diseases (F-ILDs) and the need for accurate initial diagnosis. Case-by-case decisions on monitoring and management are essential due to the varying presentations and rates of progression. The guidance also emphasizes the value of diagnostic tests in risk stratification and the use of early antifibrotic therapy in progressive pulmonary fibrosis (PPF).

Summary: Congenital heart disease is the most common cardiovascular condition in individuals with Down syndrome, affecting up to 50% of patients. Other factors that contribute to cardiovascular outcomes include pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary, endocrine, and metabolic diseases, and risk factors for atherosclerotic disease. Disparities in cardiovascular care for individuals with Down syndrome, which vary across different locations and healthcare systems, are often overlooked. This review provides a comprehensive summary of the diagnosis, prevalence, and management of cardiovascular disease in patients with Down syndrome, as well as addressing disparities in care based on resource availability.

Summary: The eHealth Working Group of VASCERN aims to develop patient-centered solutions and strategies for the effective use of eHealth tools in addressing the needs of patients with multisystemic vascular rare diseases. The group has developed a mobile app to help patients locate expert centers and patient organizations, as well as resources for training and education via digital platforms. The work of the eHealth WG can serve as a pilot experience for the collaborative development of patient-centered eHealth tools for rare diseases across Europe.

Summary: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in hemodialysis patients. However, there is currently no standardized definition of myocardial infarction (MI) for this population. The international working group recommends specific approaches for interpreting ischemic symptoms and performing baseline electrocardiograms to improve the accuracy of MI diagnosis in hemodialysis patients. While baseline cardiac troponin values are not recommended, serial cardiac biomarkers should be obtained when ischemia is suspected.

Summary: In the past two decades, there has been increased interest in studying bone marrow adiposity (BMA) in relation to bone and adipose tissue physiology, leading to the establishment of the International Bone Marrow Adiposity Society (BMAS) Biobanking Working Group. The group aims to address the challenges of biobanking human BMA-related samples and develop guidelines for creating biobanks for BMA research. Harmonizing isolation protocols and patient information globally is believed to enhance international collaborations and improve the quality of BMA research outcomes.

Summary: This study explores the implications for dentists and family doctors in the association between periodontal and systemic diseases and their roles in managing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and promoting healthy lifestyles. The results show that periodontitis is independently associated with cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), obstructive sleep apnea, and COVID-19 complications. Dentists and family doctors should collaborate in managing NCDs and implementing strategies for early detection of periodontitis and cardiovascular diseases or diabetes.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that microtransplant (MST) could improve outcome of patients with elderly acute myeloid leukemia (EAML). To further standardize the MST therapy and improve outcomes in EAML patients, the International Microtransplant Interest Group provides recommendations and considerations for MST in the treatment of EAML, based on analysis of the literature on MST, especially MST with EAML from January 1st, 2011 to November 30th, 2022. The recommendations address key issues including therapeutic principle, candidate selection, chemotherapy regimens, post-remission therapy, and other aspects such as donor screening and complications.
