Summary: Researchers developed a method to synthesize F-18-FDS for positron emission tomography imaging to visualize infections. Clinical study in 26 patients showed that F-18-FDS PET was safe and could differentiate infections caused by Enterobacterales from other pathologies such as sterile inflammation or cancer.

Summary: There is a lack of adequate treatment choices for COVID-19, and no established intervention has effectively reduced mortality rate. Recent studies have shown that 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG) could aid in faster recovery and reduce the need for supplemental oxygen in COVID-19 patients.

Summary: This case report describes the characteristics of 18F-FDG PET-CT imaging in a dog with an abdominal gossypiboma, which has not been reported in the veterinary literature before. A 13-year-old, spayed, female mixed breed dog underwent mastectomy and ovariohysterectomy and was referred for evaluation of metastasis after surgery. F-18-deoxy-2-D-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET-CT) was performed and a soft-tissue mass was observed in the abdominal cavity.

Summary: This study used FDG-PET/CT to identify physiological FDG uptake in cats and compared it with dogs, revealing differences in brain and digestive system uptake. Understanding these differences can improve cancer diagnosis and glucose metabolism understanding in both cats and dogs.

Summary: 2-Deoxy-D-glucose (2DG) inhibits glycolysis, stimulates respiration, and restricts viral replication in cultured cells. In the murine heart, 2DG increases the respiratory chain proteome of mitochondria, enhancing oxidative capacity and potentially compensating for the energy deficit caused by glycolysis inhibition.

Summary: 2-deoxy-2[F-18]fluoro-D-glucose (FDG) PET-CT has revolutionized oncological imaging, and it is also widely used in the diagnosis and treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases. Rheumatological diseases, which can affect multiple sites within the musculoskeletal system, can be accurately diagnosed and treated using FDG PET-CT.

Summary: The study reports the structural analysis of halogen-substituted derivatives of 2-DG, showing significant impact of halogens on crystal structure but not on conformation, and different intermolecular interactions. These findings provide a deeper understanding of the structural chemistry of halogen-substituted carbohydrates and their interactions with proteins.

Summary: Phenanthroline is a commonly used bidentate ligand in coordination chemistry, which can be tuned to develop efficient and stereoselective catalysts. By activating 2-deoxy-2-fluoro glycosyl halides with phenanthroline-based catalysts, glycosylations with high levels of alpha-selectivities and moderate to high yields can be achieved. The proposed mechanism for this catalytic glycosylation system involves double S(N)2 displacement pathways with phenanthroline catalysts, ensuring stereoselective formation of alpha-1,2-cis-2-fluoro glycosides.

Summary: In this study, a chemically derivatized 2'-deoxy-2'-fluoro-L-uridine building block was synthesized and incorporated into oligonucleotides. Thermo-denaturization and enzymatic digestion experiments showed superior stability of the modified molecules. The crystal structure of L-type fluoro-DNA was determined, revealing increased L-helix stability through fluoro-modification and laying the foundation for potential functional applications.

Summary: O-GlcNAcylation is a dynamic post-translational modification mediated by OGT and OGA, with potential therapeutic implications in diseases. The development of potent OGA inhibitors and optimization of heterologous OGA expression protocols have provided new insight into targeting OGA in future research and drug development.

Summary: An efficient synthetic approach leading to novel C-nucleosides containing oxadiazole or thiadiazole ring system is reported. This provides an ideal framework for the development of new antiviral and antitumor drugs. Two of the synthesized compounds showed mild anti-SARS-CoV-2 activity, with a decrease in viral titers by <1 log10 PFU/ml compared with controls. Mechanism for the formation of 5-substituted 1,3,4-thiadiazole ring is proposed and a structure-activity relationship is established with these C-nucleosides.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of brain 2-[F-18]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose-positron-emission tomography (2-[F-18]FDG-PET) as a predictor of survival in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The results showed that brain 2-[F-18]FDG-PET, combined with artificial intelligence, could accurately predict the survival time range in ALS patients. This prognostic tool has potential applications in patient management and individual stratification in clinical trials.
