Summary: The current systematic review aims to identify digital cognitive biomarkers from computerized tests for detecting dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and evaluates their diagnostic performance. Results showed that digital cognitive biomarkers achieved comparable or better diagnostic performance than traditional tests, and have the potential to be sensitive markers for MCI and dementia.

Summary: This study evaluated cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) alpha-syn levels in different neurological disorders, showing that patients with Parkinson's Disease (PD) had the lowest levels while patients with Alzheimer's Disease (AD) had the highest levels. In AD patients, alpha-syn levels were significantly associated with tau proteins, suggesting alpha-syn could serve as a biomarker for neurodegenerative diseases.

Summary: The study develops new N-terminal-directed CSF total tau assays, which show increased levels ahead of standard t-tau in the Alzheimer's disease continuum, higher levels in patients with CJD or acute neurological diseases, and better potential as Alzheimer's disease blood biomarkers compared to Quanterix total tau.

Summary: Neurological disorders are a significant threat to social health and are responsible for high mortality and morbidity. Although drug development and therapy have improved, inadequate diagnosis and understanding of these disorders have hindered the effectiveness of treatment options. Biomarkers have been seen as a potential solution to the complexities of neurological disorders, providing insight into pathophysiology and guiding therapeutic interventions. However, challenges such as brain complexity, conflicting data, poor diagnostics, and high costs limit biomarker development. Research in this area is crucial for advancing our understanding and treatment of neurological disorders.

Summary: NfL serves as a specific marker for neuronal injury, but lacks specificity for the cause or location of the damage, potentially indicating disease activity in neurological conditions. The utility of NfL in different diseases has been reviewed, revealing its universal nature as a marker of neuronal damage that extends beyond individual diseases, with potential benefits from considering the relationship between neurological symptoms and blood NfL levels.

Summary: Cognitive impairment is a common and disabling symptom in multiple sclerosis, with limited evidence supporting the efficacy of disease-modifying therapies in treating cognitive dysfunction. Cognitive rehabilitation in MS has shown promise in the past decade, with both restorative and compensatory programs proving efficacious. Clinicians should consider this low-cost, low-risk, yet effective treatment approach for their patients.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a common neurodegenerative disease with a complex genetic background. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified numerous AD risk loci. This study aims to assess the associations between SNPs in well-established GWAS AD risk loci and CSF biomarker levels or cognitive test results in Slovenian patients with cognitive decline.

Summary: The study evaluated the diagnostic performance of a rapid, extraction-free and connected RT-LAMP assay on saliva for detecting SARS-CoV-2. The test showed high sensitivity and specificity, and performed similarly for symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals. No dominant mutation in the RT-LAMP primer region was observed. This reliable and simple connected test could facilitate the restart of professional and social events in the current economic context.
