Summary: A series of silver nanoparticle-polymer hydrogel nanocomposites were synthesized to examine the matrix's impact on properties of silver nanocrystals important for strain engineering in functional materials. Various characterization techniques were used to analyze the structural parameters and cluster size effects of the nanocomposites. The nanocomposites also showed significant antibacterial potential.

Summary: Biodegradable ternary systems based on poly(vinyl alcohol)/poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone)/octadecylamine-containing zirconium phosphate were studied. The synthesis and intercalation of lamellar zirconium phosphate were accomplished. The interaction between PVA and ZrPOct was prominent, and the addition of octadecylamine altered the polymer-polymer interaction acting as a compatibilizing agent. This study provides a potential approach for controlled drug delivery.

Summary: This study reports a water-stable poly(vinyl pyrrolidone)-functionalized manganese oxide material for the adsorption of methyl orange azo dye. The composite material has a larger surface area and shows improved adsorption performance. The adsorption time decreases with increasing initial dye concentration, and the flow rate affects the adsorption and saturation time.

Summary: A star-shaped PLLA oligomer with photoreactive groups at the terminal was synthesized, and a photopolymerizable resin was prepared by incorporating NVP and FAME. The resulting network showed high mechanical properties in the dry state and good flexibility in the wet state, with both cytocompatibility and anti-adhesion properties. The material holds potential for applications in anti-adhesion barrier materials and biological anti-fouling materials with customization requirements, enabled by Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology.

Summary: Block copolymers of NVP and BzMA, PNVP-b-PBzMA, were synthesized using RAFT polymerization and sequential monomer addition. The copolymers were characterized by SEC and NMR spectroscopy, and their thermal properties were studied using DSC, TGA, and DTG. Micellization behavior in THF and aqueous solutions was investigated using dilute solution viscometry, SLS, and DLS. The efficient encapsulation of hydrophobic curcumin in the micellar core was demonstrated by UV-Vis spectroscopy and DLS measurements.

Summary: Cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) were used to improve the performance of poly (acrylic acid-co-N-vinyl pyrrolidone) hydrogel as a forward osmosis (FO) draw agent. The successful incorporation of CNFs was confirmed by various analyses. The results showed that the addition of CNFs increased the swelling ratio and water flux of the hydrogel, but a higher CNF concentration led to a slight decrease in water flux. Furthermore, the CNF-based hydrogel exhibited acceptable recycling capability in five consecutive FO cycles and was able to efficiently treat Direct Red-80 dye.

Summary: Nanogels are internally crosslinked nanoparticles used in various fields. This study demonstrates the preparation of poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone) nanogels using gamma irradiation in aqueous solutions. The morphology and crosslinking patterns of the nanogels were observed to be influenced by the polymer concentration and irradiation conditions.

The effect of crosslinker types and pH on the hydrolytic degradation of PVAm particles was investigated, and blood compatibility of the particles was assessed. Furthermore, the antifungal and antibacterial efficacy of PVAm-based particles were tested against various yeast and bacterial strains.

Summary: In this study, a one-step in situ polymerization method was used for the noncovalent functionalization of a graphene surface with poly-N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (PNVP) and the exfoliation of graphite into graphene sheets. Various characterization techniques were utilized to confirm the successful formation of the GPNVP composite and functionalization of the graphene surface. The GPNVP composite exhibited excellent rate capability with capacitive properties, making it an ideal candidate for various electrochemical applications.

Summary: Drug personalization has gained attention due to the limitations of standard generalized drug treatments. Three-dimensional printing, particularly fused deposition modeling (FDM), offers the possibility to tailor drug delivery devices for specific patient needs. This review focuses on the applications of FDM in drug fabrication using poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) as drug-loaded matrices, emphasizing the effect of printing parameters, tablet shape, and drug distribution and concentration on personalized drug release.

Summary: A Castor oil/PVP hybrid was synthesized and emulsified in water to obtain a stable white emulsion with particle size ranging from 320 to 370 nm. This emulsion was used for functional finishing of cotton fabric, resulting in improved nitrogen content, tensile strength, whiteness index, stiffness, and antibacterial activities. Incorporating zinc oxide nanoparticles or dihydroxybenzophenone further enhanced the functional properties. Dyeing and finishing of fabric samples also improved color strength, but only direct dye dyed/finished samples showed improved fastness to washing and perspiration.
