Summary: In this study, a novel processing technology-alcohol steamed GE (AGE) was proposed as an alternative to traditional processing. Compared with fresh GE, AGE showed changes in the relative content of certain compounds, but both fresh and steamed GE demonstrated promising hypnotic and anti-anxiety effects. Furthermore, the anti-anxiety mechanism of GE was found to be related to the tryptophan metabolic pathway.

Summary: This study investigated the composition, physicochemical properties, in vitro biological activity, and hypoglycemic activity of polysaccharides from four varieties of G. elata. The polysaccharides had the same monosaccharide composition but different content in each variety. They also exhibited differences in in vitro antioxidant and hypoglycemic activity, molecular weight, yield, and chemical composition. GaE-R showed the best polysaccharide activity.

Summary: The study found that GBP treatment enhanced paw withdrawal latency and threshold in rats, restored Vin-induced sciatic nerve damage, and attenuated the increase of proinflammatory cytokine levels. GBP also downregulated the mRNA levels of inflammatory cytokines in the nerves and enhanced SIRT1 activity. This suggests that GBP has a potential protective effect against chemotherapy-induced neuropathic pain through inhibition of neuroinflammation.

The combination of near infrared spectroscopy (NIR) and chemometrics, specifically partial least squares discrimination analysis (PLS-DA), proved to be an effective method for classification and prediction. Various preprocessing techniques and feature selection methods were compared to optimize the PLS-DA models, achieving high prediction accuracy.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the anti-depressant effect of Gastrodia elata (Tian Ma) and its molecular mechanism. The results showed that Gastrodia elata had a therapeutic effect on depression by acting on RTN4R and apoptosis-related targets, enhancing cell viability and inhibiting apoptosis. Moreover, Gastrodia elata alleviated depression-like symptoms in zebrafish by regulating related gene expressions.
