Summary: This study investigated the effects of a ketogenic diet (medium chain triglyceride, MCT) on cognitive performance after long-term consumption of a high-fat-high-cholesterol diet. The results showed that the MCT diet improved spatial learning and memory performance, reduced expression of inflammatory proteins, and increased expression of neurotrophic factors compared to the high-fat-high-cholesterol diet. This suggests that the MCT diet may help slow down neurodegeneration.

Summary: Although the specific action site and signal pathway of astaxanthin in weight loss remain unclear, this study used Caenorhabditis elegans to shed light on its efficacy and specific action sites. The supplementation of 60 μM astaxanthin significantly reduced fat deposition and triglyceride levels and prevented obesity caused by excessive energy accumulation. These effects were induced by sbp-1/mdt-15 and insulin/insulin-like growth factor pathways, and co-regulated the down-regulation of specific sites fat-6 and fat-7.

Summary: Selenium plays a crucial role in hypothalamic physiology by supporting leptin signaling and maintaining proper redox balance. Knockout mice of the selenocysteine tRNA gene showed less weight gain on a high-fat diet, with female mice retaining hypothalamic sensitivity to leptin while males were unaffected, indicating a sexually dimorphic influence of selenium on neurobiology and energy homeostasis. These findings provide new insights into the impact of selenoproteins on a specific population of hypothalamic neurons.
