Summary: Older mice showed larger stroke size and increased neuromotor deficit compared to young ones. Inhibition of TNF-alpha restored stroke volume, neuromotor performance, and survival rates in older mice, suggesting TNF-alpha as a causative contributor to the deleterious effect of aging on stroke outcomes. Increased TNF-alpha plasma levels in patients with ischemic stroke correlated with worsened short-term neurological outcome and age.

This study identified 14 loci associated with the frailty index, with an estimated single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) heritability of 11%, and a higher educational attainment genetic risk score was linked to lower levels of frailty.

A 6-year prospective clinical cohort study on the bidirectional association between frailty and depressive disorder

Sarc-frailty: towards an integrated view of ageing

Clinical perspectives on the age-related increase of immunosuppressive activity

Summary: Aging is associated with immune remodeling, chronic low-grade inflammation, and decline in immune function. This leads to increased risk for cancer and chronic infections, as well as reduced efficacy of vaccines and immunotherapies. Chronic inflammatory states also promote premature aging through immunosuppression. Immunosuppressive cells play a crucial role in tumorigenesis, chronic infections, and tolerance to vaccines and immunotherapies. Inflammaging is also associated with increased immunosuppressive activity. Aging and chronic inflammatory states involve activation of immunosuppression and immunosenescence, explaining the higher risk for tumorigenesis and chronic inflammatory states in aging individuals.

Summary: The study found that caregivers who were forced to reduce working hours or were unemployed had worse physical health compared to working caregivers. This result was confirmed in the adjusted model. Additionally, factors such as caregiving hours, the cared-for individual's ADL/IADL scores, and informal support network also played important roles in caregivers' mental health.

Summary: Research on the use of ICT in the context of frailty is still in its early stages, with few studies focusing strictly on frailty assessment and rare reports of ICT interventions for frailty. The lack of proper characterization of frailty condition and methodological limitations have hindered the investigation of ICT within complex care models. Future studies are needed to effectively integrate ICT in the care of frailty in older persons.
