Summary: In this study, the authors sequenced 309 walnut accessions from around the world, aiming to better understand the genetic diversity, domestication, and selection footprints in Persian walnuts. The results revealed core areas of genetic diversity and identified transcription factors related to nut diaphragm thickness that were under selection during domestication. This study provides valuable insights for the genomics-assisted breeding of this economically important crop.

Summary: The study investigated the herbicidal potential of walnut leaf extract against two weeds, Amaranthus retroflexus and Chenopodium album, and evaluated its impact on maize. The results showed that the walnut leaf extract negatively affected the germination and growth of the tested weeds, as well as induced oxidative stress. However, it had a minimal impact on maize and did not cause significant oxidative stress.

Summary: In this study, 19 YABBY genes were identified from two Juglans species. Sequence analysis showed that they played important roles in phytohormone and light responses. Gene expression pattern analysis suggested that walnut YABBY genes were likely involved in peel and flower development and responses to biotic stress. This study provided novel insights into the evolutionary basis of YABBY gene families in Juglans and offered clues for further investigation in other tree species.

Summary: This study examined the relationships between nut length and weight among Juglans neotropica trees in a city park in Bogota, Colombia. Non-destructive and external morphological measurements were used due to the endangered status of the species. The results showed a strong correlation between nut width and weight, and a moderate-strong correlation between nut length and weight. These findings are important for selecting the best plant material for breeding programs in urban forests.

Summary: Kernel oxidation susceptibility and pellicle darkening are significant concerns for walnut quality. Monitoring oxidation parameters and volatiles in kernels can help evaluate potential oxidation markers. Different storage conditions can impact the oxidative stability, phenols, tocopherols, and fatty acid profiles of walnuts, making kernel volatiles a useful measure for walnut oxidation during storage.

Summary: This study presents a multidisciplinary analysis of dormancy progression in walnut trees in northern Patagonia, linking forcing/field phenology, bud anatomical development, and soluble sugar dynamics. The results suggest that heat requirement is the main driver in phenology dynamics, and the decrease in sucrose may serve as a reliable biological marker for endodormancy release in walnut trees.

Summary: Chrysoeriol (CHE), a natural flavone, shows potent Xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitory activity through competitive inhibition with hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interaction. The interaction between CHE and XO was studied through fluorescence quenching and conformational changes, revealing the binding mechanism of CHE towards XO. Molecular docking study enhanced the understanding of CHE's binding affinity towards XO, while molecular dynamic simulation and ADMET prediction showed promising stability and pharmacokinetic properties of CHE.
