Summary: This study assessed the utility of 5 quantitative hCG immunoassays for use as tumor markers in trophoblastic and non-trophoblastic disease. Results suggest that all 5 immunoassays are adequate for using hCG as a tumor marker in gestational trophoblastic disease and select germ cell tumors. Further studies are needed to assess the utility of quantitative hCG as a tumor marker in other malignant diseases.

Summary: We compared the diagnostic sensitivity of beta hCG with total hCG assays in testicular cancer patients. Discordant results were common, with isolated increases of hCGt observed in 15.7% of patients and beta hCG in 6.9% of patients. Primary hypogonadism was the most common cause of isolated hCGt increases. Beta hCG decreased more rapidly below its upper reference than hCGt after therapeutic interventions.

Summary: The main objective of this study was to prepare and evaluate primary reagents for the liquid phase human chorionic gonadotropin-radioimmunoassay (HCG-RIA) kit. Polyclonal antibodies were found to be specific and valid, while monoclonal antibodies were more specific. The developed in-house HCG-RIA method showed high sensitivity, specificity, precision, and accuracy, making it suitable for quantifying HCG in human sera for pregnancy monitoring and diagnosis of gestational trophoblastic diseases.

Summary: The aberrant increase of circulating β-human chorionic gonadotropin (?-HCG) at early stages of pregnancy is associated with predicting gestational hypertension. Inflammatory and oxidative stress markers play a significant role in severe pregnancy-induced hypertension during the perinatal stage.

Summary: Testicular cancer has a high cure rate, with most patients diagnosed at a young age. Research into survivorship issues and newer biomarkers among testicular cancer patients and survivors will continue to advance the field. Further therapeutic options are needed for patients who do not respond to standard treatments.

Summary: hCG is a hormone that binds to LHR and plays roles in pregnancy and tumor development. Studies have shown conflicting results on the role of hCG in cancer. In vitro experiments without serum showed that hCG could promote cell proliferation in breast cancer cell lines.

Summary: The study focused on identifying key residues in LHCGR that are likely evolved in humans to discriminate between specific binding of LH and hCG. Mutations within the receptor's leucine reach repeat 9 and 10 were found to lead to loss of discrimination ability, resembling the modulation of Lhr-mediated signaling patterns.

Summary: This study found that serum ketone levels peak in the third trimester of pregnancy, but do not directly correlate with neonatal body shape. Weight loss during pregnancy may be related to morning sickness, with a higher pre-pregnancy body mass index leading to greater weight loss.

Summary: Gestational trophoblastic neoplasia can be misdiagnosed as ectopic pregnancy, with common clinical manifestations including amenorrhea, abnormal vaginal bleeding, and abdominal pain. By conducting HCG testing, ultrasonography, and pathological analysis, the misdiagnosis rate can be reduced and timely treatment can be provided.

Summary: The study found that zGnih has a direct effect on spermatogenesis induced by both basal and gonadotropin (Lh and Fsh) in zebrafish testis. Specific concentrations of zGnih can significantly decrease the number of G0/G1 cells after 7 days in culture, with no significant impact on the proportion area of spermatogonia cell types. The research also revealed that zGnih reduces the proliferative activity of type A spermatogonia and increases the mitotic activity of type B spermatogonia.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of airborne PAHs on hormone production in placental cells. The results showed that PAHs can decrease the levels of beta-hCG and progesterone, potentially leading to abnormal placental development and adverse pregnancy outcomes. This may be attributed to the role of PAHs as endocrine disruptors.

Summary: We used image analysis to characterize the dose vs response curve of a qualitative serum hCG lateral flow immunoassay, which helped us understand the transition from negative to positive. The results showed that the curve could be described by a simple hyperbola equation, which was useful for verifying the assay's performance characteristics.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the predictive value of CA-125 in combination with serum beta-hCG and progesterone in the early detection of EP. The results showed significant differences in levels of CA-125, beta-hCG, and progesterone between the EP and IUP groups, and a combination of these markers had high sensitivity and specificity in the early diagnosis of EP (92.8% and 90.9%, respectively).
