Summary: This study aimed to test a diverse group of chicken breeds to search for breeds that experience less fear. The results showed significant variations in fear-related behaviors among different breeds, possibly linked to their historical purposes. Understanding and quantifying these behavioral responses provide opportunities to improve welfare through selection and future breeding.

Summary: This study aims to reassess the TIS models and validate it in a Hebrew-speaking population. The results suggest that a three-factor model of TI, fear, and detachment provides the best representation, and the internal consistency of the Hebrew version is good.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of experimental dietary exposure to the heavy metal Lead (Pb) on the calls of Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica) hatchlings. The results showed that exposure to all three tested levels of Pb resulted in calls with shorter syllables and fewer notes, which were evident only at day 21 of exposure. These findings highlight the potential of vocalization patterns as an important noninvasive tool for monitoring Pb pollution in the environment.

Summary: The study aimed to establish a pain model in quail and evaluate the efficacy of opioid and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The results showed that the formalin test was a reliable method for assessing tonic pain behavior in quail, with different effects observed at different stages with opioid and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Summary: Increasing dietary protein concentration from 18% to 24% in quail diets decreased feed intake and egg production, but significantly increased egg weight, shell weight, and other egg-quality traits. The 18% CP diet resulted in the highest egg production, while the 22% CP diet had the lowest feed intake and the 24% CP diet stimulated higher egg-weight and egg-quality traits.

Summary: Although nature is usually associated with joy and wonder for children, this qualitative study found that 50% of 4-5-year-old Alaskan children expressed fear and anxiety during an outdoor excursion. Children created fearful situations by imagining monsters, snakes, and alligators, and encountered challenges such as dark areas and navigating through tall grass. Self-talk and staying close to one another were common strategies used by children to regulate their fearful experiences.
