Summary: Disorders of the central nervous system (CNS) are serious health issues that can be hindered by the use of hesperidin. This natural compound has been shown to have neuroprotective properties by decreasing neuro-inflammatory and apoptotic pathways. While hesperidin has been studied in preclinical models for CNS diseases, its definite effect in humans is still unclear, making it important to explore clinical trials for further confirmation of its efficacy and safety.

Summary: This study aimed to compare infant feeding practices among postpartum depressed and non-depressed mothers and identify associated factors. The findings showed that mothers with postpartum depression were less likely to practice appropriate infant feeding compared to those without depression. Additionally, higher household income and having three or more children were significant determinants of appropriate infant feeding practice.

Summary: It is important to detect symptoms of common mental disorders (CMDs) in pregnant women, but cultural differences and scale variations can affect their expression. This study compared Gambian pregnant women's responses to the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and Self-reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20), as well as comparing responses to the EPDS between pregnant women in The Gambia and the UK.

Summary: This review examines the role of individual nutrients in the diet and their impact on the risk of depression. Deficiencies in nutrients such as protein, B vitamins, vitamin D, magnesium, zinc, selenium, iron, calcium, and omega-3 fatty acids can significantly affect brain function and lead to depressive symptoms. However, diet is not the only factor in depression, as other aspects such as physical activity, sleep, stress management, and social support also play a crucial role in maintaining mental health. Further studies are recommended to draw more reliable conclusions.

Summary: Effective treatment of mental health problems is important for recovery, but their complexity and involvement of multiple target points necessitate a combination of different drugs. Multifunctional, hybrid molecules show promise as they offer the desired therapeutic effects with minimal off-target risks. A multi-modal approach to drug therapy may be more effective for mental illnesses.

Summary: This study investigates a rare case of spinocerebellar ataxia 40 caused by a mutation in the CCDC88C gene. The mutation leads to late-onset cerebellar ataxia, dysmetria, and intention tremor. However, functional tests reveal that the mutant DAPLE protein only partially activates the JNK pathway and does not trigger apoptosis. Therefore, the CCDC88C mutations may exert their effects through different and possibly broader biological processes.
